Later, we witness what we have travelled to see; Oberammergau’s Passion Play. During the 17th century, the villagers of Oberammergau pledged that if they were spared from the plague, they would perform the Passion Play - a story of the life and death of Jesus - and have continued to do this every ten years since 1634. Today, it is world renowned and highly anticipated, with over 2,000 citizens involved in the performances that take place in an open-air theatre hosting 4,700 people.
