Kibale National Park Gorilla

Kibale National Park - Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary

Track the most famous inhabitants of Kibale National Park - the chimpanzee - on a morning’s trek. With over 1,450 individuals protected within the park, Kibale forest is home to the largest number of endangered chimpanzees in Uganda, and it is one of the best places to observe them in the world. The forest has one of the highest diversity and density of primates in Africa, totalling 13 species including the threatened red colobus monkey and the rare L’Hoest’s monkey, plus reptiles, birds and an incredible 250 varieties of butterfly. We follow this excitement with a fascinating guided walk through Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary. You may then like to take a walk in a nearby village or visit a school in the local community, talk to the students and teachers and participate in the lessons.

Queen Elizabeth National Park Elephants

Kibale National Park - Queen Elizabeth National Park

After breakfast, we drive through the beautiful Kasenda Crater Lakes field to the scenic Queen Elizabeth National Park, crossing the equator along the way. Keep watch for the 95 mammal species and many more varieties of birds who inhabit the area. We settle into the Katara Lodge (3T+) or Mweya Safari Lodge (3T+) where you can enjoy uninterrupted views of the extensive savannah, and we discover the area on an evening game drive.

Hippos

Queen Elizabeth National Park

Rise early this morning to watch the national park as it wakes, on an unforgettable game drive in 4x4 vehicles. There are over 100 mammal species including the lion, buffalo, leopard, spotted hyena, elephant and the elusive giant forest hog in this park, as well as numerous primates including chimps, the black and white colobus monkey and olive baboon. In the afternoon, we have a boat safari on the Kazinga Channel, a wide stretch of water which draws a large number of mammals, birds and reptiles. You are bound to spot Nile crocodiles and hippos wallowing in its depths.

Queen Elizabeth National Park Lions

Ishasha Sector - Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

We take a game drive in the Ishasha Sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park, where the unusual tree-climbing lions are found lazing amongst the branches of huge fig trees. We continue to the home of the critically-endangered mountain gorilla. Of Uganda’s forested parks, Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is best known for gorilla trekking, but it also provides refuge to elephants, chimpanzees, monkeys and various small antelopes, as well as 23 bird species endemic only to this area. We stay at the Mahogany Springs (4T), Silverback Lodge (3T+) or Engagi Lodge (3T+) for the next two nights.

Gorilla Family Uganda

Gorilla trekking, Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Trekking for the mountain gorilla is one of the most exciting wildlife experiences on earth and we wake early this morning to begin our search. The duration of the walk will depend on their location on the day; however the experience of observing the world’s largest living primates at play is a privilege that is certainly worth the effort! It can often take up to 5-6 hours of trekking through rough terrain to see the gorillas and return to your hotel. You may wish to hire a local porter to assist you on the trek and carry your bags, which can be arranged at a reasonable cost. You will be led by an experienced ranger who will tell you interesting facts about flora and fauna and the lifestyle of the gorillas. As an alternative, there are other treks of three hours and up available.

Lake Mburo Zebra

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park - Lake Mburo National Park

Today we drive to Lake Mburo National Park and the Mihingo Lodge (4T) or Mantana Tented Camp (3T+). The Lake Mburo National Park forms a diverse habitat with rocks, dry slopes, open and wooded savannahs, forests and swamps. As we enter the park we begin a game drive to observe the abundance of impala and zebra, plus some 313 bird species recorded in the park. We visit a cattle rearing family who will show us how to milk and care for the rare and appropriately named Ankole Longhorn.
