Unforgettable tours of  America

We’ve been designing North America tours for more than 40 years now – in fact, the USA and Canada were two of our original touring destinations. They’re both such vast countries, so there’s an incredible variety of scenery, history and culture to discover.

The highlights of our USA tours come together like a traditional American patchwork quilt – big-name cities, national parks, hearty cuisine and historic sights. Head west for coastal cool and canyonlands; east for small-town charm and colonial history; north for mountains and big skies; or south for musical heritage and antebellum mansions. Two of our original North America tours – California and the Golden West and Southern Sights and Sounds – are still among the most popular in our whole collection.

Head north to Canada and Alaska and you’ll be stepping into some of the world’s greatest wildernesses. Snow-tipped mountains reflect in blue-green lakes, thick forests play host to bald eagles and bears, and pods of whales cruise through glacier-edged bays. Our Canadian Rockies tours are always a popular pick – combine the glorious mountain scenery with time in cosmopolitan cities and maritime communities, or explore the fishing towns and wildlife reserves of Alaska on an unforgettable cruise along the coast.

What our experts love about North America

Driving along Big Sur, on the edge of California's Pacific Coast, was absolutely breathtaking. The winding road curves around the steep cliffs and at every twist and turn you're greeted with spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean - simply stunning.

More information about North America

Our motto is 'adventure made effortless', and this really rings true on a North America holiday. Planning and preparing for a trip here can be confusing and time-consuming, so we do all the hard work for you, working out the route, booking hotels and excursions, and ensuring you're in the right places at the right time to really make the most of your time away. Distances can be vast and drives can be long, but we'll be behind the wheel the whole time, leaving you free to relax and take in the scenery.

The weather varies hugely, so to work out the best time to visit North America, it's better to narrow down where you'd like to go first. In Canada, you'll enjoy warmer weather in the summer months, but fewer crowds in early spring and later into the autumn. Key whale watching periods vary between regions, but usually fall somewhere between June and early October. Our experts recommend springtime in California and the western states - warm weather, fewer crowds and beautiful wildflower displays - while New England is fantastic in the autumn when the leaves change.

The great thing about travelling in North America is just how many incredible attractions there are. Some of our favourite iconic sights include Lake Louise and Columbia Glacier in the Canadian Rockies; Niagara Falls; San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge; the Grand Canyon; the Grand Ole Opry music hall in Nashville; and New York's State of Liberty. A few lesser-visited spots include Hemingway's former home on Key West, lush Iao Valley on the Hawaiian island of Maui, and L'Anse aux Meadows, a thousand-year-old Viking settlement in Newfoundland.

Credit and debit cards are widely accepted across the US and Canada, though be aware of any fees that your provider might charge. Many places will also accept mobile payments like Apple Pay. It's a good idea to take some cash with you, particularly smaller bills that you can use for tips. Your tour manager will be on hand if you need any help finding ATMs or using cards while you're away on any of our North America guided tours. They can also advise you on local tipping customs.

Visa requirements for travel to the USA and Canada vary depending on the passport you hold and the length of time you're planning on staying. For the most up-to-date information on visas for a North America holiday, please use the quick-check tool on our visa requirements page.

The interactive tool on our visa requirements page also covers travel restrictions for each destination, so you'll be able to quickly and easily find the latest information on there. If you're unsure about anything regarding our North America escorted tours, just give us a call or request a callback and our friendly travel advisors will be happy to help.
