Single holidays & solo travel
Travelling on your own? Enjoy solo travel? An escorted holiday is a fantastic way to travel. Having a great group of like-minded people to share the trip’s memorable moments with make them all the more special, plus you’ll have the peace of mind that everything’s taken care of, from the itinerary details to the airport transfers.
We welcome thousands of solo travellers on our holidays every year. Our solo holidays are reserved exclusively for those travelling by themselves. On each one, we’ve included a drinks reception hosted by your tour manager on the first night – ideal for getting to know everyone. Throughout, your tour manager will be on hand to make sure everyone gets the best out of their holiday.
If you’d rather travel on one of our other escorted tours, lots of them carry low or no single supplement. Your tour manager can introduce you to other solo travellers in the group if you like, and we make it easy to mingle at every opportunity, organising coaches to excursions and meals where you can get to know your fellow travellers.
Travel solo but never alone
Travelling solo can be an amazing experience. You’ll meet new people, see new places and make memories that’ll last a lifetime.
There’s no ‘typical’ traveller on our solo tours. Some are holidaying on their own for the first time; others are seasoned solo travellers. Some are single; others are married. Some are fulfilling a lifelong travel wish; others simply want to see somewhere new. We welcome all sorts of people, travelling for all sorts of reasons. They do all have one thing in common, though – a love for travel.
Wherever you’re dreaming of – the Grand Canyon, Costa Rica’s cloud forests, the Italian Lakes – having a great group of people to share and relive a trip’s memorable moments with makes them all the more special.
There’ll be someone to take that photo of you beside Niagara Falls or join you for a walk around town. To laugh with about a ‘lost in translation’ moment or brave a shot of the local firewater with. Unforgettable memories are made – and shared with new friends.
Expertly designed escorted holidays
Our holidays range from rail journeys and river cruises, to small-group tours. Each one has been carefully put together by our team of travel experts, with experienced tour managers, local guides or cruise directors on hand to ensure everything runs seamlessly while you’re away. Timings, routes, logistics - it’s all taken care of.
VIP door-to-door travel service
Our door-to-door transfers are industry-leading, and get your holiday off to a relaxed, hassle-free start. No matter where you’re flying from or how far away you live, our drivers will pick you up from home and take you to the airport. When you return, they’ll be waiting at the terminal to bring you back home. There are no mileage limits and no extra charges for solo travellers.
Value for money is always at the forefront when we create our holidays. Our hotels are all handpicked and named, and we detail all your included excursions and meals so you know exactly what you’re paying for. On every solo tour, we also include welcome drinks on your first night, so you can get to know everyone.
As much as possible, we’ll offer you the option of flying from an airport convenient for you. If flights to your destination aren’t available from your closest airports, we’ll arrange connecting flights to London, often at no extra cost.
Our holidays are frequently recognised by customers and industry experts for their quality. A fantastic 97% of our customers would travel with us again, and readers of Telegraph Travel voted us 2018’s Best Escorted Tour Operator. And at last year’s consumer-voted British Travel Awards, we received 20 titles - the most of any travel company!
Want to know what makes our solo traveller holidays stand out from the rest? For starters, whether you’re journeying around India’s Golden Triangle or exploring Mexico’s Mayan ruins, you know you’ll be in the company of like-minded travellers. In fact, the social aspect of our holidays is what our customers tell us they enjoy the most, whether they’re travelling solo or not. Friendships are formed and birthdays are celebrated. Photos are compared and stories are swapped. A quick drink after dinner turns into an evening filled with laughter. Unforgettable memories are made – and shared with new friends.
Will I be staying in a room on my own?
Yes, you’ll always be able to return to the comfort of your own room. This gives you space whenever you need it, as well as comfortable surroundings where you can rest and get ready for the day or night ahead.
Will I make friends?
You’ll have the freedom to socialise as much or as little as you want, but we’ll provide plenty of opportunities for you to get to know everyone else on the tour. Travelling together is a wonderful way to get to know people - our customers often finish tours with lifelong friends (and future travel companions).
Will I have to eat dinner alone?
Not if you don’t want to. If you’d like some company, you can head along to an informal dinner led by your tour manager. The conversation always tends to flow when there’s a memorable day to reflect on - and perhaps a bottle of wine on the table. Your tour manager will let you know when and where to meet.
I can’t make the date for the solo tour I’d like to do. Are there any other options?
Of course - you’re more than welcome to join any of the regular departure dates for these tours, or any of our other holidays. Groups tend to be a mix of couples, friends, families and single travellers, so there’s always a lovely, friendly atmosphere.
Your tour manager can introduce you to other solo travellers in the group if you like, and we make it easy to mingle at every opportunity, organising coaches to excursions and meals where you can sit down and get chatting to your fellow travellers.
Do you offer any solo cruises?
While we don’t have any solo-specific voyages, we do welcome lots of solo travellers on cruises each year. Many of our exclusive river cruises have cabins with no single supplement available (these tend to book up quickly, so we’d recommend booking sooner rather than later), and you’ll stay in a spacious, comfortable twin cabin.
Ocean cruises are another great option. Mealtimes are sociable, with group seating allowing you to get to know other passengers. Some cruise lines also arrange informal drinks receptions or coffee mornings where you can meet others travelling by themselves. Your travel advisor can let you know all the details.
