Holidays in South Africa
South Africa is one of the most exciting destinations on Earth, with more than 2,500km of dramatic coastline along the Atlantic and Indian Oceans, historic cities, diverse landscapes and a rich variety of flora and fauna. Our South Africa tours are designed to show you the very best of this incredible country.
Heading out on safari in search of the Big Five in world-famous reserves such as Kruger National Park or Mala Mala, and coming face-to-face with these magnificent animals in their natural habitat, is a truly magical and unforgettable experience. Along the coast, the Garden Route National Park, Knysna Lagoon and Featherbed Nature Reserve offer more opportunities to spot South Africa’s wildlife. And, of course, no holidays in South Africa are complete without a call at the nation’s most photogenic city, Cape Town.
More Information about South Africa
Our tours of South Africa have all been carefully crafted to show you the country’s highlights – and much more besides. As well as the usual Titan benefits (superb service, hassle-free transfers from home, a knowledgeable tour manager), one of the biggest plus-points about our collection of escorted tours to South Africa is choice.
Opt for one of our comprehensive South Africa tours (The Best of South Africa, Sensational South Africa and Contrasts of the Cape) for a fantastic introduction to the Rainbow Nation. For a really wild experience, take a look at our South African Safari Adventure – two weeks of game drives across four very different reserves. Or for spectacular scenery and fascinating history, there’s our tour of KwaZulu-Natal and Lesotho. You can also combine South Africa tours with time elsewhere in Africa. Our Tracks of Africa holiday offers the chance to explore Cape Town and the Garden Route, and travel across the country on a luxurious vintage train, before you head north to safari in Botswana and gaze at Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe. Our Cruise & Tour holiday begins at Victoria Falls, before you embark on a South African safari and then a cruise from Cape Town to Mozambique and back.
Cape Town
Situated right on the southern tip of South Africa, Cape Town has a reputation for not only being one of the most exciting cities in the country, but in the whole of Africa.
Among the many attractions you can take in at the coastal city are the Cape of Good Hope, the Kirstenbosch botanical gardens and the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront. If you'd rather take things a bit easier, why not relax on one of the many beaches in the city? These include False Bay, Boulders Beach and Camps Bay.
With the towering Table Mountain lying in the backdrop of the city, you may want to go on a cable car up to the summit, which - at 3,558 ft above sea level - will provide you with the chance to take in fascinating views of the landscape below.
Kruger National Park
Tours of South Africa provide you with the opportunity to see a wide range of beautiful and exotic creatures thanks to the abundance of national parks and game reserves in the country.
A trip to the Kruger National Park is the ultimate South African safari. Not only does the park contain the Big Five - lions, rhinos, leopards, elephants and buffalo - but also zebras, baboons and cheetahs, among others, so there's certainly plenty to see.
Ornithologists will also be in their element here, with starlings and kingfishers among the many bird species that can be spotted on a Kruger safari, while the park's river banks are a great place to look for water birds like storks and herons.
Mkuze
Similarly, the Mkuze game reserve is a great place to spot wildlife. Take a safari holiday here and you'll be able to see everything from blue wildebeest and giraffes to antelopes and hippo.
The reserve also encompasses some dramatically varied landscapes - including the Lebombo mountains in the west, woodlands and shallow water pans – and you will also get the chance to learn more about the ancient Zulu tribespeople who live in the region.
Knysna
Visiting the coastal town of Knysna, part of the beautiful Garden Route region, is certain to be a highlight of any South Africa holiday.
Here you'll be able to enjoy a range of fun activities such as sailing and hiking, while there are also several golden beaches where you can relax on the sand before going for a dip.
Head to the historic harbour, meanwhile, and you can take in fantastic sea views, visit quaint teahouses for a refreshing drink and shop for souvenirs at boutique stores.
Gqeberha (formerly Port Elizabeth)
Located on the fringes of the Garden Route, Gqeberha also offers a wealth of attractions, and is featured on three of our escorted tours to South Africa.
Nicknamed the Windy City, here you can visit the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Art Museum and stop by attractions such as the Campanile belltower, which was built to commemorate the arrival of British settlers who came to South Africa in 1820.
Flight time from London to Cape Town is approximately 11 hours and 30 minutes.
