Dunston Hall, Norwich (4-star)
Enjoy a leisurely start to your day before we leave the hotel for Thursford, pausing en route to purchase lunch. This ancient village attracts over 130,000 visitors each winter with its spectacular Christmas show of song, dance and comedy. Take your seat this afternoon for an outstanding performance of seasonal and year-round classic songs, and choreographed scenes comparable with West End productions. Then appreciate the tens of thousands of lights that turn the trees around the venue into a wonderful Christmas wonderland.
Christmas Eve - Norwich
This morning we take a guided sightseeing tour of Norwich by coach. A thousand years ago, this university town was one of the biggest cities in England, with the longest run of medieval defences in the country. The vast wall, gates and round towers are in ruins now, however there’s no shortage of historical buildings merging with the modern architecture of this city. From the coach we’ll see Norwich Cathedral, a magnificent Norman structure decorated with more than a thousand beautiful medieval roof boss sculptures. Its extravagant size is hinted by its spire, the second tallest in England. We also pass Norwich Castle, another mark of the city’s Norman past. After our city tour you’ll have time to explore the wonderfully haphazard streets at leisure; the cobbled Cathedral Quarter is particularly lovely. Return to the hotel for hot drinks and shortbread.
Christmas Day - Norwich
Start your Christmas Day festivities with time to relax or take a stroll before Christmas lunch is served. Enjoy the Queen’s Speech, with mince pies and coffee or walk off your lunch to prepare for a Christmas quiz this evening.
Boxing Day - Fairhaven Woodland and Water Garden
After a day of feasting, we’ll journey out to Fairhaven Woodland and Water Garden. Set in 130 acres of ancient woodland in the heart of the Norfolk Broads, the gardens are great to explore. We’ll visit the gardens themselves and enjoy a talk on the plants, local wildlife and the Norfolk Broads. After a refreshing cream tea, we’ll return to the hotel to spend the rest of the day at leisure. Coffee and Christmas cake will be served this afternoon.
