Christmas Eve - BBC Studios Newcastle
We’ll visit BBC Studios Newcastle for a tour behind the scenes of this fascinating world of radio and television. Scheduled carefully between live television broadcasts, we’ll have the chance to see the news stories being prepared and the clocks counting down. We’ll also learn interesting and quirky facts about television production here. The studios are home to programmes such as Sunday Politics and Inside Out and the hub for many exciting dramas, including the award-winning Wolfblood. After all the excitement, we embark on a panoramic orientation tour of the city, before some free time to obtain lunch in Newcastle’s cafes or restaurants. On arrival back at the hotel we’ll enjoy tea, coffee and tasty shortbread before dinner.
Christmas Day - Newcastle
This morning’s Christmas celebrations will be accompanied by a glass of Buck’s Fizz. You’re free to relax in the festive surroundings of our hotel or perhaps take a walk locally to work up an appetite for Christmas lunch. This afternoon settle down to watch the Queen’s Speech, with Christmas cake.
Boxing Day - Tanfield Railway
We travel by coach to the world’s oldest railway, the Tanfield Railway, for their Mince Pie Special. When the Tanfield Railway was built in 1725, it was a revelation and a clear signal that a new industrial age was upon the world. Today, we enjoy tea and mince pies, before boarding the train for a journey to Sunniside and East Tanfield. After an exhilarating trip, we return to the hotel stopping on the way to see Gateshead’s most recognisable piece of public art, The Angel of the North. On arrival at the hotel, there’ll be tea, coffee and shortbread.
