Summary

We first created this tour more than 20 years ago - and it’s still as popular now as it was when we first unveiled it. We’ll journey from Toronto to Washington DC, travelling via some of the most iconic cities in Canada and the US. And as well as seeing the sights in the likes of New York, Boston, Philadelphia and Ottawa, we’ll detour to picturesque small towns and take in the famous New England scenery.

  • Niagara Falls

    We’ll take a full day excursion to admire the natural wonder of Niagara Falls. There are so many ways to view it and from a host of different perspectives. Take a stroll along walkways or head to the observation deck of the nearby Skylon Tower. Or take an optional helicopter flight, to see it from the air, or a Hornblower cruise to the base of the Falls. Whichever you choose makes memories to last a lifetime.

  • Toronto

    We’ll tour friendly Toronto this morning and reveal a timeline of urban architecture, from splendidly restored 19th-century buildings to ultramodern shopping malls and 21st-century skyscrapers.

    An optional excursion is available to the top of the CN Tower, for a time the world’s tallest building, piercing the Toronto skyline to a height of 550m. There’ll be some free time to unwind in the lovely harbourfront area, before we return to our hotel.

  • Ottawa

    Head to Canada’s striking capital, Ottawa, where an orientation tour includes a stop at the imposing Parliament Building, guarded by the instantly recognisable ‘Mounties’ - the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

    The remainder of the day is free and there’s plenty to see. Many attractions are open into the evening, including the Canadian War Museum, or simply stroll around the attractive Parliament buildings.

  • Montréal - Burlington/Colchester

    Travelling into francophone Canada, we arrive in Montréal, which combines the best of the North American lifestyle with the culture and sophistication of France. With an imaginative system of underground walkways and complexes, the city is a pleasure to discover in all weathers. After some free time, we continue our journey and head into the USA and to Burlington or Colchester.

  • Pittsfield

    Vermont is one of the most picturesque and charming of all the United States, showcasing the scenic splendour of Green Mountain National Forest alongside delightful towns and villages. We’ll visit two of these today - Woodstock and Old Bennington. In the latter, a traditional white clapboard church fronts a cemetery in which the revolutionary founders of the state are buried.

  • Boston

    En route to Boston we’ll stop at Concord and Lexington, where some of the first shots were fired in the War of Independence.

    Arriving in Boston for a city tour, you have free time afterwards to explore this most English of cities.

  • Boston

    Discover Boston: shopping, walking its cobbled streets or simply appreciating its picturesque setting in Massachusetts Bay. Maybe walk the Freedom Trail, a route that stretches 2.5 miles through the city, taking you past 16 of its most historic sites., including Faneuil Hall Marketplace and the Boston Tea Party Ships and Museum.

  • Mystic

    We travel further back through American history this morning, breaking our drive to Mystic with a stop at Plymouth Rock. The Pilgrim Fathers of the Mayflower were said to have landed here in 1620, after a gruelling 66-day journey from Plymouth, England.

    We also visit Newport, the Rhode Island resort where the richest families of yesteryear built their mansions and estates.

  • New York

    Travel to incredible New York. Following an included city tour, the rest of the day is free for you to take your own bites of the ‘Big Apple’.

  • New York

    Enjoy another day in the heart of New York. Will you choose to savour the tranquillity of Central Park, visit iconic attractions such as the Statue of Liberty and the Empire State Building, admire the peerless exhibits of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, or hunt for bargains at the sensational department stores - Macy’s, Bloomingdales and Saks?

  • Philadelphia

    With so much to experience in New York, you’ll appreciate a further morning here before we journey southwards to Philadelphia. On arrival, we’ll take an orientation drive around the ‘City of Brotherly Love’, passing Benjamin Franklin Boulevard, Market Street and the Town Hall.

    The rest of the day is free - maybe wander down the cobbled streets lined with elegant red-brick Georgian buildings and visit the Liberty Bell, the LOVE structure or the ‘Rocky Steps’ made famous in the film ‘Rocky’. A visit isn’t complete without a taste of Philly Cheesesteak.

  • Baltimore - Washington DC

    We head for Baltimore, a vibrant city on the shores of Chesapeake Bay, with small-town charm. Then we continue to Washington DC, which followed Philadelphia as the nation’s capital.

  • Washington DC

    A short journey takes us to Washington’s cultural and political centre - the Mall, which comprises two miles of graciously laid out gardens and fine buildings dominated by the Capitol Building. To the west is Lincoln Memorial and in between is the famous Smithsonian Institute, which includes the stunning Air and Space Museum.

    A short stroll takes us to the White House, home of every American President after George Washington. This evening we’ll visit Georgetown, a fascinating community of exquisite houses, shops and restaurants.

  • Day 15 Washington DC - In flight

    Visit Mount Vernon, an idyllic estate that was home to the first US president, George Washington. Later we transfer to the airport for your return flight to the UK.
