Escape the crowds: North America's hidden gems

There is no getting away from the fact that overtourism is an issue. With major attractions across the globe straining under the pressure from hordes of visitors, is there an alternative way to travel that will benefit holidaymakers as well as the destinations they want to experience?

Some of the biggest travel trends from last year look set to continue and gain significant momentum such as no fly holidays and slow travel including river and train journeys. The focus being that by reducing the negative impact on the environment will help to improve local economies and communities.

While ticket entries and visitor quotas help stem the crowds that are threatening to overwhelm major attractions, there is a new solution that is steadily becoming more and more popular - out of season travel.

According to a recent survey, 57% of UK travellers have admitted that overcrowding would put them off choosing a certain destination. Which is why travelling out of season is such a great way to not only escape the masses but offers the chance to explore less-visited areas that may not necessarily be on the ‘bucket list’ but are nevertheless remarkable.

Titan’s USA tour holidays and Canada tours are some of our most popular holidays, and with over 45 North America tours there is infinite scope to discover some of North America’s hidden gems. A chance to break away from the crowds, and have a more authentic experience.

Mingle with the locals, and witness the majestic seasonal changes which can only be seen out of away from summer – such as cherry blossom trees in Washington DC. Be wowed by the russet hues that will envelop the landscapes of the USA’s National Parks in autumn - where temperatures are cooler and the colour displays are a blaze of wonder. We have USA tour holidays and tours of Canada that will offer a much more relaxed holiday, the chance to explore lesser-trodden paths.

Visions of Virginia

With an intoxicating mix of natural beauty and history, Virginia is where settlers first established a permanent colony. From the heady scents of pine forests, to the expansive rolling green fields and sweeping beaches, as well as the imposing Smoky Mountains and lush vineyards of Barboursville, there is much to admire. Virginia is steeped in history - and you can step back in time at Colonial Williamsburg, a living museum depicting life from the 18th Century and of the American Revolution.
