Our solo holidays offer travellers the chance to meet like-minded people and explore wonderful destinations as part of a friendly group. The motto for us is that you may be choosing to travel solo, but you’re not travelling alone. Many of our customers enjoy the freedom of being able to pick and choose when and where they want to go on holiday, as well as being able to make new friends. And because our solo itineraries also have rest days, too, there are also opportunities to enjoy exploring by yourself or relaxing with a good book.

If you’ve never been on a solo holiday before and have been tempted by the idea, our Product Manager Rob Stapley believes that a river cruise is the perfect introduction to solo travel. Not only is it a sociable experience, but it’s also easy to explore so many incredible towns and cities along some of Europe’s most stunning rivers including the Rhine, Moselle and Danube.  Rob tells us more about why he thinks river cruising for solo explorers is so fantastic.

MS River Discovery II

Why is river cruising suited to solo travellers?

There are just so many reasons! But first and foremost is that river cruising is really informal and a sociable experience. There are lots of other solo travelers onboard, as well as couples, and the open seating at dining means that you can choose with who you’d like to sit with– there are no stuffy rules or having to wear formal clothes. And because we have smaller sized ships - typically just over 100 on MS Serenade and 140-150 on River Discovery II – it really is easy to get to know everyone on board.

It's also a safe way to travel – for those who may be worried about taking a trip on their own, as with all Titan holidays you will be in the company of an experience Tour Manager. While on our river cruises you will also have a Cruise Director and entertainer to make sure every detail runs smoothly, and you have a fantastic time. You can explore all the destinations easily, too – as we sail right into the heart of towns and cities. There are no long disembarkation times – we hop off and pretty much start discovering all the amazing history, culture and landscapes surrounding us.

Will solo travellers have to pay large supplements on river cruise?

Our river cruises are fantastic value and include all meals, as well as a generous drinks package where you get wine and beer with lunch and dinner, as well as typically four excursions on a seven-night cruise. You also get entertainment from visiting musicians and a full programme of activities from the Titan entertainer onboard the ship. And with only a £200pp supplement on River Discovery II and from £400pp supplement on MS Serenade across a range of dates, means our prices for solo travellers offer some of the best value on the market.

Do solo travellers have to sit alone for meals?

No never - our policy of open seating for all meals means that guests can choose with whom they sit with at any meal time. Our experienced Titan cruise director and tour manager are also there to ensure that all guests get the most out of their holiday experience and they are very good at making sure it is an inclusive experience and that no-one feels isolated from the rest of the group.

Will solo travellers get to have some alone time too?

Absolutely, you can join in as many or as few activities and excursions as you wish. It’s your holiday after all. There is always somewhere quiet to relax and read a book. Guests might consider booking a higher-grade cabin which has a French balcony, which is a great place to spend an afternoon with the window open and lovely fresh air coming in while you enjoy the passing scenery.

What are Titan’s most popular river cruises for solo travellers?

The most popular river cruises are our seven-night cruises on the Danube on River Discovery II and the seven-night cruises on the Rhine. These are the perfect choice for people who have never tried a river cruise before, I promise...

If a solo traveller still needs convincing about going on a river cruise, what would you say?

If you’re still not sure if river cruising is for you, try a shorter one to start with – perhaps our five-night Tulips and Windmills holiday. There are so many great things you can experience on a river cruise – travel with other solo guests; meet new friends; visit lots of different interesting places while only unpacking once; and have the comfort of knowing that everything has been planned for you and you have the support of the Titan team onboard as well as the expert crew. You can also enjoy wonderful food in good company and join in on our included excursions but also take time to wander round places in your own time and at your own pace. Best of all is unwinding as you glide down the river past beautiful countryside (any stress leaves your body within minutes of getting onboard!) You only have to look at the comments from happy past customers on Reevo and our website to see how magical they are.

If you’re considering a solo river cruise why not take a look at our Rivers brochure or speak to one of our travel advisors?
