This departure lands you in the oceanside city of Rio de Janeiro just in time for the Winners’ Parade – an extravagant display of colour, music and dancing from the Carnivale’s winning samba school, plus the five runners-up. Tickets for the parade can be booked as an optional excursion – and we’d 100% recommend it. With 5,000-plus performers, floats with the wow-factor and a non-stop party atmosphere, it’s an incredible finale to your South American adventure.

Inti Raymi departure
Meaning ‘sun festival’ in the traditional Quechua language, Inti Raymi is a celebration of the Sun God Inti. Worshippers gather in the Peruvian city of Cuzco each winter solstice, as they have done for more than 500 years, and pay their respects to Inti through music and re-enactments of ancient events. This special departure allows you to experience the finale of the festivities – think drums, panpipes, sunset bonfires and a theatrical re-enactment in the mystical stone ruin of Sacsayhuamán.

Day of the Dead departure
Dia de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is a celebration to honour those who have passed away. On these special departures, we’ll see the different ways this festival is marked as we travel across the country, from tasting pan de muerto (bread of the dead) at a bakery in the country’s capital, to admiring the ofrendas (offerings) in the candlelit streets and squares of Oaxaca, with their bright-orange marigold garlands.

Fancy spending the festive season Down Under? This Christmas departure follows our Best of Australia tour route (with an additional day in Melbourne), and is timed to arrive in the tropical city of Cairns in time for the big day. Gion Festival departure
Fun street parties, huge floats, locals dressed up in their best summer kimonos – attending Kyoto’s Gion Festival is a fantastic experience. It’s the biggest festival in Japan, so we’ll kick you off with a guided walking tour to let you know where everything is. As well as the festival, this special departure includes a traditional Japanese riverside dining experience, with a full kaiseki dinner and a performance from a maiko (apprentice geisha).

Takayama Festival departure
Ranked as one of the most beautiful festivals in Japan, Takayama Festival takes place in a charming historic town in the Japanese Alps. Held twice a year (in spring and autumn), the festival celebrates the beginning and end of the harvest. Expect to see magnificent floats (yatai) at the night parade, which we’ll enjoy on arrival in Takayama.

Sumo Wrestling Tournament departure
Sumo is Japan’s national sport, and it’s one that’s steeped in tradition. Attending a match is a thrilling way to immerse yourself in the energy and excitement of it all – these special departures include tickets to one of the three official tournaments held in Tokyo each year. We’ll arrive at Ryogoku Kokugikan stadium ahead of the big afternoon match, ready to watch the wrestlers grapple for supremacy.
