Ontario is a province that has something for everyone, whether you want to immerse yourself in the area's culture, sample local food and wine or explore the great outdoors.

Head to Ottawa and you will be able to see the only UNESCO World Heritage Site in Ontario, the Rideau Canal. Other highlights include the parliament buildings and major museums and galleries like the National Gallery of Canada, the Canadian Museum of Civilization and the Canadian War Museum.

As you might expect from a national capital, Ottawa is packed with great dining and shopping experiences for the perfect city break. However, the surrounding countryside is just as absorbing for visitors and is well worth exploring as you travel to Toronto from Ottawa on your Canada tour.

While in Toronto, you will be able to enjoy all of the exciting experiences associated with one of the largest metropolitan areas in North America.

Head to the CN Tower for spectacular views from one of the highest observation decks in the world, see impressive works at the Art Gallery of Ontario and explore heritage-related attractions such as the Fork York National Historic Site.

From here, you can easily access the splendour of Niagara Falls. Ride in one of the Maid of the Mist boats for an unforgettable view of this natural wonder and enjoy a leisurely lunch for a wonderful day out.

The largest province in Canada is also the gateway to the country's fascinating French heritage, which began when France colonised the region in the 16th century following 12,000 years of inhabitation by Native Americans.

Quebec City is North America's only fortified city, with its 2.8-mile rampart and fortresses being a huge draw for tourists. Other popular attractions include Parliament Hill, where the provincial government meets in a stunning 19th-century building, as well as the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Old City.

Sights of note just outside Quebec City range from the Cap Tourmente National Wildlife Area - where nearly 300 types of bird can be spotted - to the spectacular 272 ft Chute Montmorency waterfall.

Another urban centre well worth exploring on your Canada tour is Montreal. This cosmopolitan city is home to plenty of architecture dating back to the 18th and 19th centuries, as well as attractions such as the Montreal Science Centre, the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, the Canadian Centre for Architecture and the Old Port.

With so much on offer, the regions of Ontario and Quebec should be considered by anyone looking into Canadian holidays.
