Wind through three European countries via one of the continent’s most impressive waterways. Excursions take you from majestic natural landscapes to soaring man-made edifices. And in between, uncover the region’s rich history and culture for yourself, whether you’re passionate about the fascinating cathedrals and castles of central Europe, awed by the sheer scale of its forests, mountains and waters, or just want to discover why visitors have been drawn to the Rhine for centuries.
Titan’s VIP door-to-door travel service collects you from home, for your flight to Basel. Upon arrival, embark MS Serenade 1 (4T), where light refreshments are available. A welcome cocktail and captain’s gala dinner are served this evening.
Day 2 - Basel (Mount Rigi)
On your second day, join our excursion to Mount Rigi, the so-called ‘Queen of the Mountains’. Following a coach ride to Arth-Goldau, hop aboard the cogwheel train for a journey to the top of Rigi Kulm, the highest peak in the massif. Enjoy gloriously sweeping views of the surrounding mountains and lakes, before taking the cogwheel train down to Vitznau to join a relaxing steamboat cruise across scenic Lake Lucerne. Following free time in the beautiful medieval city of Lucerne, we return to our ship and set sail for Breisach, Germany.
Day 3 - Breisach
Choose our optional excursion to explore the beautiful and peaceful Lake Titisee on a cruise, followed by spare time to explore for yourself. Or enjoy a relaxing day pottering around the pretty, pastel-hued town of Breisach.
Day 4 - Strasbourg
Having arrived at Strasbourg in the early hours, we invite you to join our excursion around this fascinating Alsatian city, home to the European Parliament, a magnificent Gothic cathedral and a UNESCO-listed Old Town. Our tour includes a canal cruise around the historic waterways of ‘Petite France’, where picturesque half-timbered buildings line the way. You have the rest of the day to enjoy Strasbourg at leisure.
Day 5 - Speyer
Following an early morning arrival at Speyer, you can join an optional tour of this delightfully walkable town, including a visit to the impressive UNESCO World Heritage-listed Romanesque Cathedral, a worthy mausoleum for several of Germany’s emperors and kings. Before we set sail for Rüdesheim later this afternoon, there is time to discover more of the city’s legacies.
Day 6 - Rüdesheim - Lorelei Passage - Koblenz
We set sail for the interesting gateway city of Koblenz, via the Lorelei Passage, a slate formation shrouded in legend, which naturally shapes the twists of the beautiful Rhine Gorge. In the afternoon, join us for a tour of Koblenz and visit to Ehrenbreitstein Fortress, which stands guard over the city and rivers below.
Day 7 - Bonn - Cologne
Awake in Bonn, and spend the morning on a guided walking tour of the city’s main sights including the Beethoven monument, cathedral, the baroque City Hall. In the 250th anniversary year of his birthday, we’ll of course visit Beethoven’s birthplace too - a museum and chamber music hall - to learn more about the life and work of this great composer. This afternoon, we’ll arrive in the architecturally magnificent city of Cologne. Join an optional walking tour to uncover its treasures. This evening, enjoy the captain’s farewell gala dinner on board.
Day 8 Cologne - Düsseldorf - UK
We transfer to the airport for your return flight to the UK. Upon arrival, your Titan vehicle will be waiting for the journey home.
Please note: 2020 will be the 250th anniversary of Beethoven’s birthday and we’ll mark the occasion by adding his hometown, Bonn, to the itinerary. This means 2020 sailings will enjoy a walking tour and visit to Beethoven’s house on day 7 (2019 departures include a walking tour of Cologne instead).
