In Portugal's Iberian Peninsula, the Douro river is the setting for several Titan luxury river cruises. On our 'Lisbon & the Beautiful River Douro' cruise, passengers travel north, from Lisbon to Porto - and join a cruise which heads inland from the mouth of the Douro. The luxury cruise stops at locations including Bitetos, Regua and Pinhao, travelling past picture-postcard rural landscapes and hillsides covered in terraced vineyards. Excursions along the way include the Douro Museum and the baroque Mateus Palace and Gardens - and a dinner engagement at the Quinta da Avessada winery, where passengers sample some of the region's delicious food and drink. Titan passengers may choose to experience the delights of the Douro in particularly grand fashion - on the 'Spirit of Chartwell', Queen Elizabeth's Royal Barge during the 2012 Jubilee celebrations. Exclusively chartered, the luxurious barge takes passengers on a leisurely cruise down the Douro - with stops at Figueira Castelo Rodrigo and the picturesque city of Lamego.
650 miles off the coast of Portugal in the Atlantic Ocean, the island of Madeira is a paradise of lush gardens, breathtaking natural beauty and an enviable North African climate. On our exclusive holiday, 'Madeira: Pearl of the Atlantic', visitors to the island explore its volcanic interior and famous floral exhibitions bursting with colour. Excursions during your time on the island include the 'Patricio & Gouveia' embroidery factory, the Botanical Gardens of the capital city of Funchal and a chance to sample the produce of the renowned Madeira Wine Company.
As a historic port city, and gateway to the Atlantic Ocean, Lisbon is a popular destination for many of our ocean cruise holidays to Portugal - including grand tours around Europe. On our 'Easter in the Adriatic' cruise, travellers visit Portugal's capital, before heading on to destinations in Spain, Italy, Greece and beyond. Our excursions in Lisbon bring its ancient heritage to life: explore the opulence of the 16th century Jerónimos Monastery or visit the historic Belem district, where Belem Tower still keeps watch over the waters of the nearby bay. Beyond the city, visitors discover the medieval town of Obidos, the holy village of Nazaré and the imposing 17th century Pousada do Castelo de Palmela. Lisbon's part in Portugal's thriving wine making tradition should not be underestimated, and during your stay, you will have opportunities to seek out the city's famous port cellars to sample some of the delicious produce stored there.
Beyond river and ocean cruises, Titan's holidays in Portugal include escorted coach tours, which take in every highlight of the stunning Iberian Peninsula. Our 'Grand Designs of Portugal' tour showcases the beauty of a route leading from Lisbon up to Porto, with stops at the fascinating marble-producing towns of Estremoz, Borba and Vila Viçosa, excursions into the Serra da Estrrela mountains and around the historic city of Porto. Throughout the tour, passengers stay in extravagant pousada hotels, absorbing the captivating local culture and sampling the finest food and wine of the regions through which they travel.
