Sorrento holidays introduce you to one of Italy’s prettiest destinations. The town sits on a clifftop above a series of tiny pebbled beaches and bathing platforms, with spectacular views across the bay to mighty Mount Vesuvius. Delve into the mazy backstreets and you'll find ivy-draped trattorias, gift shops and hole-in-the-wall cobblers crafting leather sandals (something of a speciality in Sorrento).
To the west of Sorrento lies the Amalfi Coast. Tours here tend to start in pastel-hued Positano, before snaking along lemon grove-lined cliffs to pretty Amalfi town. Explore its monochrome-striped cathedral, before heading up into the hills to the beautiful botanical gardens of Ravello.
Out in the Bay of Naples are the islands of Capri and Ischia. Glamorous Capri, with its designer boutiques and beach clubs straight out of a Slim Aarons print, is an ideal day trip from Sorrento. Ischia is worth spending a few more days on, to fully appreciate its hot springs, sandy beaches and laid-back seaside villages - our 'Contrasts of Ischia and Sorrento' holidays perfectly combine the two destinations.
Tipping is customary for obtaining good service. For service in restaurants etc. 10% is usual.
Italy - Euro (EUR/€) 1€ = 100 cents.
A buffet breakfast is commonly provided and usually consists of tea/coffee, rolls or pastries, cereals, tinned fruit, cheeses and cold meats and an additional charge may be requested for hot items such as eggs and bacon. Pasta is a common part of Italian meals.

Summers are generally hot, with a milder spring and autumn and cold winters, particularly in the north. Lightweight cottons and linens are advisable and we suggest that you take layered clothing so that you can adapt to weather conditions accordingly. A jacket and woollens for cooler evenings are useful. We also suggest a light waterproof jacket in case of any occasional showers. Comfortable, closed, flat walking shoes, sunscreen, sunglasses and a hat are essential. Other useful items to pack are a small day-backpack, binoculars, a torch and an umbrella. Due to the medieval layout of the towns (and current transport regulations) access is limited and clients are advised that most of our escorted coaching holidays in Italy, involve a significant amount of walking. When visiting churches, visitors (ladies in particular) should cover their arms and shoulders. Entry may also be refused to ladies or gentlemen wearing shorts. For holidays during winter months, to destinations where the weather is a lot colder, you will require waterproof outerwear and stout shoes, warm clothing (hat, coats, gloves and an umbrella). You should be prepared to walk in heavy rain or on snow and ice.
EHIC/GHIC - Following the UK’s exit from the EU, the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) is being replaced by the Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC). UK-issued EHICs are still valid and offer the same cover as GHICs in the EU. Once your EHIC has expired, you’ll be able to replace it with a GHIC and you can apply online. You should beware of unofficial websites that may charge if you apply through them. An EHIC or GHIC is free of charge.
Either card lets you get medically necessary state healthcare in Europe at a reduced cost or sometimes free of charge, however it isn’t a replacement for travel insurance, you should have both before you travel. Some European countries don’t accept either card (including the Channel Islands of Guernsey, Alderney and Sark, Norway, Iceland, and Switzerland). To access up-to-date details for the country you’re visiting, please refer to this information
