Italian Lakes & Croatia Voyage

We Love

Taking to Lake Maggiore's serene waters to visit the magical Borromean Islands. Wandering wide-eyed through the narrow, ancient streets of Dubrovnik.

Picturesque blue bays, wooded islands and spectacular beaches - it can only be the scenic shores and islands of Croatia. Sip locally grown wine, wander among the famed terracotta-topped buildings and lose yourself in a web of ancient backstreets. But first, indulge in the authentic charms of Italy at lesser-known Lake Maggiore and discover the three magical Borromean Islands floating at its centre. At the end of your voyage is the floating masterpiece of Venice, where the warren of canals and marble palaces, will have you in awe.

  • Rijeka

    Day 5 - Rijeka, Croatia

The first stop on our voyage, Rijeka is colourful and ornate with a 20th century port. Wander along its streets for unique Austro-Hungarian charm and a healthy dose of local culture.

Away from the port, the city has a green centre. Trsat Castle makes for an interesting stop - it’s thought to lie on the exact spot of an ancient Illyrian and Roman fortress. Meanwhile, the Korzo district is your best bet for pretty shopping streets and the opportunity to try some local specialities.

  • Zadar

    Day 6 - Zadar - Split (overnight)

Although the capital of Dalmatia for many centuries, Zadar is a quiet and gracious town. This is where old meets new, which becomes apparent as you wander the network of narrow streets dotted with Roman ruins and Romanesque churches. And then, in the same breath, marvel at the city’s modern architecture and technology.

Hiking enthusiasts might like to escape the city in search of cascading waterfalls and hiking trails at one of the nearby national parks. But before we leave, be sure to sample the local liqueur, maraschino, made from marasca cherries.

Relax on board with an afternoon of sailing as we glide towards Split, arriving late this evening.

  • Split

    Day 7 - Split

We have the whole day to explore one of the most beautiful towns in Croatia. Among the old atmospheric walls and narrow cobblestoned streets, Split has been humming away from thousands of years.

Drift through the web of narrow streets showcasing pre-Romanesque churches and Gothic chapels. Soak up the beauty of the Cathedral of St Duje - the oldest cathedral in the world - and the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Diocletian’s Palace, which dates back to the 4th century. Perhaps wander down to the water’s edge and stroll along the Riva, the spectacular white marble-esque promenade.

  • Dubrovnik

    Day 8 - Dubrovnik

From the moment you step beyond the stone walls that encircle Dubrovnik, you’ll get a feeling for what makes it so special. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is adorned with charming squares and centuries-old red-roofed buildings. Walk the fortified walls for a spectacular view of the city.

  • Hvar

    Day 9 - Hvar

Crowned the ‘Sunniest Place in Europe’, Hvar is the perfect place for beach lovers. But there’s so much more to this island than the sprawling beaches and bright blue waters. Lush olive groves, fruit orchards, fields of lavender and vineyards upon vineyards bless the landscapes around Hvar. In town, historic buildings edge one of the largest squares in the ancient region of Dalmatia - the perfect place for a spot of people watching with a glass of that local wine.

    Azamara Quest® (5-star)

  • Venice

    Day 10 - Venice (overnight)

On our penultimate day, we arrive in Venice, one of the world’s most famous cities. Take in the city’s highlights, including the Grand Canal and its magnificent Venetian architecture, and Palazzo Ducale, the home of the Doge.

Amble along the warren of alleyways and bridges crossing canals and you’ll soon find yourself somewhere entirely different, where washing hangs between buildings and locals frequent authentic trattorias. Back in the city centre, St Mark’s Square is an ideal spot to watch dusk fall over the city.
