Hungary tour holidays
Embark on a tour or river cruise to Hungary and you’ll discover elaborate architecture, Roman-era ruins and a rich culture, not to mention serene riverside scenery (the Danube winds its way through the heart of the country).
Capital city Budapest is the country’s star attraction. It’s split in two by the Danube, with hilly, historic Buda on the west side and vibrant Pest on the east. The most recognisable sight is the Parliament Building, with its grand neo-Gothic façade, but other must-sees include the UNESCO-listed Castle Quarter, the opera house and St Stephen’s Basilica.
Head north on a Danube river cruise and you’ll reach former capital Esztergom. As the seat of the Hungarian Catholic Church, it’s home to an immense basilica, which crowns a hilltop overlooking the town and river. South of Budapest are Kalocsa, where you can get a taste of Hungarian folk traditions (and paprika-spiced cuisine), and Mohács, a former European Capital of Culture.
River cruises in Hungary
The mighty Danube cuts through the centre of Budapest. Most of our Danube river cruises include a stop off in the city, often staying overnight (or at least late enough for you to enjoy the city sights illuminated after dark). Itineraries heading north along the river occasionally also call at Esztergom, while those heading south towards the Danube Delta sometimes offer stops in Mohács and Kalocsa.View all holidays to Hungary
