Why choose a multi destination holiday to Australia and New Zealand?

There are some holidays that are worth the wait, wouldn’t you agree? And if you’ve been dreaming of travelling to the other side of the world to experience a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Australia, wouldn’t it make sense to also tick New Zealand off the list, too?

Imagine the epic journey you will have to both spectacular destinations. Discover Australia’s ancient indigenous culture, sweeping coastlines and laidback appeal. You’ll venture to the dramatic Outback and explore Uluru and be awe-struck by the beauty of the Great Barrier Reef.

In New Zealand, you’ll try some of the finest wines in the world and be mesmerised by soaring mountains, dramatic gorges and glaciers. Travelling between the North and South Islands you will experience different scenery, from steaming rainforests to wildflower meadows, hissing geysers and volcanic plateaus to lush wineries and gorgeous beaches.

A multi-destination holiday may be just the experience you’re looking for and our escorted tours to Australia and New Zealand offer so much for travellers who want the ultimate adventure. Our Product Manager Cassie Stickland agrees and gives her thoughts on why both destinations really are worth doing together…

Why do you think it’s worth going a combined Australia and New Zealand escorted tour?

If you are going to spend a significant amount and 20+ hours on a flight to the other side of the world then you may as well see as much as you can of that part of the world in one holiday. Especially if you have the time available, then it is worth taking the extra few weeks to see both Australia and New Zealand, rather than just one or the other. The Best of Australia and New Zealand takes place over 40 days, so it gives you plenty of time to explore both destinations without feeling rushed.

Do you think it’s good value for money?

Return flights to this part of the world are usually anything between £1,200-£1,800 on a decent airline and so even though you have to take an international flight between Australia and New Zealand – being able to see the two countries and not pay for those UK flights twice definitely saves a significant amount of money. Not to mention all the other associated costs you would have to pay twice with going on two long-haul holidays such as travel insurance, health insurance, currency exchange, house or pet sitting for instance.

Will you really see the best of both Australia and New Zealand?

It will certainly feel jam-packed with highlight after highlight – but that in my opinion is a good thing! It will be a full-on, exciting, once-in-a-lifetime adventure from the moment you step off that plane however, the best thing about travelling with us is that we will have planned the itinerary perfectly for you – allowing the best of both countries to be experienced alongside ensuring that it does still feel like a holiday and that you do still have some time to relax.

On The Best of Australia and New Zealand tours, you have eight days at leisure to do as little (or as much) as you want - on a 40-day tour (with a couple of days either side taken up by flights), that’s quite a nice ratio.

However, if you want to spend even longer exploring both then that is entirely possible. Even though we only have one combined Australia and New Zealand escorted tour, we have many customers who have done our standalone Australia holidays with our standalone New Zealand tours. That means you get an epic six-week adventure with us - as multi-destination holidays go, it's a pretty great one!

What are your favorite highlights of Australia?

I just love all of it. There is certainly something very magical about seeing the majestic Uluru or the iconic sails of the Sydney Opera House for the first time though. Alongside these obvious highlights Perth is also an unexpected gem I think – a really lovely laidback city with amazing weather and so much to see and do in the surrounding areas.

And in New Zealand?

Very difficult to give an answer to this one also, especially being half a kiwi! The South Island is probably my favorite (at a real push) – the weather is definitely colder than the North Island but Queenstown and the Fiordland are just stunning – they literally take my breath away every time I am there. The West coast of the South Island is also very rugged and untouched which can be something hard to find anywhere in the world these days.

That being said, the North Island is warmer and is the home of the fabulous traditional Maori culture, the buzzing city of Auckland and some beautiful and serene places like the Bay of Islands, so it’s still very close behind the South Island for me.
