Fanstastic reasons why you should visit Africa

“If I have ever seen magic, it has been in Africa,” author John Hemingway once said. Watching a herd of elephants stride across open plains, giraffes feasting at the tops of trees and lions lazily resting in shade from the fierce heat of the sun is a memorable and overwhelming experience.

But there is so much more to Africa than just incredible wildlife. You'll discover vast stretches of glorious coastlines, searing deserts, thunderous waterfalls, soaring mountain peaks and ancient history. As well as welcoming people and rich cultural traditions that vary from one country to another. Visiting this destination will leave you wanting more - Africa really is unlike any other continent.

Our holidays will take you to the best places to visit in Africa – from sailing down the Nile in Egypt and stepping back in time to being filled with wonder watching lions playing on the plains of Kenya, our Africa tours will make you fall in love. Why visit Africa? Here are just a handful of reasons we think you should visit this magical continent at least once in your lifetime.

Astounding wildlife

Africa is perhaps one of the most exciting places to spot wildlife and is home to some of world’s most endangered species. Communities now more than ever are working together to conserve these wonderful creatures and many of the game reserves we go to on our Africa holidays support animal conservation and education.

Nothing is more magical than seeing animals roaming in their natural habitat. And on an African safari you can expect to see the Big Five - lion, leopard, rhino elephant, and buffalo, as well as many others including wildebeest and cheetahs. From game drives on a Kenya wildlife safari on the Maasai Mara Game Reserve to South Africa’s Kruger National Park, our customers will have spectacular wildlife encounters. However, it’s not just about African safari tours. We also go for scouting for lemurs on our Madagascar holidays and seek out whales in Namibia.

Must-see sights

Africa has some epic sights. On our South Africa holidays, you’ll be in awe of Table Mountain as the clouds swirl arounds its peaks and laugh as you see hundreds of penguins waddle along Boulders Beach.

In Zimbabwe, travel on the path to the smoke that thunders and be astounded by the intense spectacle of the world's largest waterfall as you visit Victoria Falls. Our customers will be able to travel on train across Victoria Falls Bridge and see the shimmering colours of the sun reflect over the water as it sets.

On our Kenya Tracks and Trails, you’ll be able to watch the wildlife cross the plains against the backdrop of the dramatic Mount Kilimanjaro; in Cairo, Egypt, stand in awe as you gaze at the immense Great Pyramids and Sphinx at the Giza Necropolis. Made from over two million stone blocks, and one of the Seven Ancient Wonders of the World, stories of the past will bring this wonderful sight alive.

People and traditions

It’s the people that you meet that can often make a holiday. And in Africa, you can expect a warm welcome. African culture is as diverse as it is rich – traditions that date back centuries, but in some rural areas are still going strong. From music, dance and art, to distinct customs, you’ll get the chance to meet local communities.

In Kenya, you’ll spend time with the local people in Masaai; in Zimbabwe you can meet the local school children; in Underberg you can tuck into a hearty homemade pie at a local famer’s house; in Contrasts of the Cape, you'll be taken on a tour by villagers who tell the fascinating tales of their local areas. And in Madagascar, shop in the local markets and meet the locals who can help you find the best products.

Natural beauty

With several Natural Wonders of the World in Africa you will be guaranteed plenty of gasp-inducing views and landmarks. And while Africa is known for its sweeping savannahs and rippling desert sand dunes, like those you can find in the Kalahari in Namibia, it also has stunning stretches of coastline. There are also fascinating cities and towns – sip a drink on top of a rooftop bar above the souks in Marrakech or wander the pretty harbour in Knysna and watch the boats bobbing on the water.

From the jagged mountain tops and tropical green rainforests, Africa is without doubt a beautiful destination where one visit, really won’t be enough…
