Falling in love with the UK
Supporting our local communities – our farmers, bakers, brewers and craftsmen – is more important now than ever. Our renewed desire to cherish our heritage, as well as being aware of our personal global footprints means now is a great time to start. And with recent events pushing us to explore closer to home, we think there is no better place to holiday than here in the UK.
Our UK tours are diverse and offer the chance for you to discover some of our country's hidden gems - from awe-inspiring landscapes and sweeping coastlines to pretty market towns and cosmopolitan cities. And while there is so much to see and do, you'll also be at the centre of local communities and supporting independent shops and cafes, as well as business owners and entrepreneurs.
And what better way to show you the very best of what the UK has to offer than asking members from the Titan team to share with your their favourite spots. Below is a round-up of some of the best highlights we have across our UK holidays.
Norfolk – Sharon, Area Sales Manager
“Norwich is my favourite UK city, and I go back as often as possible! There’s a glimpse into the past around every corner - old cobbled streets, ancient churches, crumbling city walls, the castle and both of its cathedrals are a huge contrast against the modern shopping malls and restaurants - a perfect blend of old meets new! The hotel we stay in, Dunston Hall, is magnificent - a really beautiful old hotel, renowned in the area, within an easy 10 minute drive of the city centre. I love the area and leave a little piece of my heart every time I leave. The people are just so friendly!”
Lake District – Alastair, Senior Marketing Executive
“I’ve been to the Lakes a number of times since being introduced to them about ten years ago, and I find something new to enjoy every time. My favourite bits? The gasp-inducing mountain passes, the glorious views from the hill/fell/mountaintops (on a clear day anyway), and of course the all-important cosy, friendly pubs for those post-exploration refreshments.”
Yorkshire – Alison, Product Manager
“I went to Yorkshire a few weeks ago and stayed in York at the Doubletree by Hilton York. The hotel location is perfect – it’s literally a couple of minutes’ walk to the Monkgate entrance to the old walled city. The city has so much to offer with its rich ancient Roman history, its 13th century Gothic cathedral, York Minster and quaint streets filled with shops, restaurants, cafés and pubs. What I loved most about York was the Shambles, with timber-framed buildings overhanging old cobbled streets and a market with a fabulous food court. It’s a perfect place to sit with a cold beer and enjoy some delicious street food…. You might even get some local musicians playing. RHS Harlow Carr was a lovely place to spend a few hours strolling around. The beautiful gardens showcase a wide variety of landscapes – my favourite part was the bird viewing hut – we sat here for ages watching a huge display of different birds feasting along with the squirrels. Yorkshire is just gorgeous – the people were so friendly – we will definitely be going back – might even retire there!”
Northumberland – Nicola, Content Executive
“Every time I go to Northumberland, I see something new that really appeals to me. It’s a wild county, with acres of open moorland and rugged coasts. And there are castles and forts everywhere! It’s easy to imagine what it might’ve been like centuries ago, when armies from across Europe would appear over the hilltops. Keep heading north and you’ll stumble over the remains of Hadrian’s Wall. You might even find the ruins of one of the Roman forts that helped to fend off the ‘unruly Caledonians’ – I learnt a fair bit at Vindolanda.
I really like Hexham; it’s a small, beautiful market town with plenty to see, including England’s first purpose-built prison! And then there’s Newcastle. There’s the tilting Millennium Bridge and the glass armadillo-shaped events centre; but there’s also so much old stuff to see – the beautiful Theatre Royal, the Castle Keep; and traditional old pubs that always offer a friendly welcome.”
North Wales – Anisa, Head of Production
“The countryside is picturesque; it is my second home, though I would like it to be my first! The drive to Snowdon shows how windy and narrow the roads are. There are usually sheep on the road at some point and they aren’t always keen to move! The weather at the bottom of Snowdon doesn’t determine the weather at the top, though the visitor centre at the top provides respite from both wind and rain on days when it is decidedly bitter. Taking the train up Snowdon makes life a lot easier! Listen carefully to the guide on the train as there are lots of facts as well as tales from the mountain.”
Isle of Wight – Sarah, Tour Manager
“I’ve been fortunate and have been to several places in Titan’s UK Short Breaks brochure; however the one I find myself going back to again and again is the Isle of Wight. For me, the special enjoyment of this tour is the delightful hotel, charm of the island, the coast line, and the places visited, especially Osborne House which offers new discoveries on every visit. And as you are on an island, you really feel like you’re away from it all; you have the feeling that life has slowed down a notch; you feel relaxed!
I recommend the island to family and friends as there’s something for everyone to do, and an ice cream (even garlic flavoured!) for everyone’s taste! One of my favourite things to do is walk from Ventnor, along the stunning coast path to the gem known as Steephill Cove, have a crab sandwich at The Beach Shack admiring the ever changing views and then head into the botanic gardens where you can enjoy over 30,000 rare and sub-tropical trees and plants!”
