Autumn Hero

Where to go in Autumn

Autumn is a great time of year to travel – the summer holiday crowds have departed and temperatures are that little bit cooler, making walking and sightseeing a lot more comfortable. But where should you choose to go for a holiday in autumn? We could pick out dozens of fantastic destinations, but we know that sometimes it’s better to have an edited selection, carefully chosen by those in the know. So we asked our expert product managers, Cassie, Phil and Alison, for their top picks instead. Read on for their suggestions…

New England, USA & Eastern Canada

“The fall foliage in New England is world renowned, which makes autumn one of the best times to visit. The changing colours of the leaves turns New England into a fiery landscape of orange, red and yellow. You can also enjoy beautiful autumn landscapes a little further north, around the Canadian provinces of Ontario and Quebec.” Cassie

Catalonia, Spain

“This is the perfect time to explore the breathtaking Spanish region of Catalonia. While the intense heat of summer has begun to dissipate, there are also fewer crowds, as Spanish families are back home after their lengthy summer holidays. Enjoy cooling sea breezes on boat rides and explore medieval towns and cobbled streets in pleasant temperatures.” Alison

South Africa

“October is a great month for baby animals in South Africa. Many of the species will have given birth to their young and the subsequent dramas unfold. November is a brilliant time for birders, as all the migratory birds have returned by this time.” Phil

Costa Rica

“October is the best month to visit Costa Rica if you're interested in seeing the turtles – this is the time they come up to nest on the beaches of Tortuguero, on the Caribbean coast.” Cassie

Croatia

“September is one of my favourite times of year to explore Croatia by boat. Temperatures have cooled after the hot summer, but the sea is still lovely and warm – perfect for swimming. The crowds have thinned out, too.” Alison

Mexico

“In general, October through to April is dry season in Mexico. My pick would be early November, though, to coincide your holiday with the Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) national holiday. It takes place on 2 November – we have dedicated departures that include some special Day of the Dead extras.” Cassie

Far East

“Around India's Golden Triangle, the rainy season is behind us, making autumn the best time to visit Rajasthan. There is sunshine all around, humidity has passed and the evenings are cool, making the ideal environment to recoup after your busy days. October and November are festival months in India, with the brightest spectacle being Diwali, the Festival of Light.” Phil
