Dive into Indochina with this comprehensive 3-week tour of Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos. In Vietnam, we’ll journey from Hanoi in the north to Ho Chi Minh City in the south, stopping at the likes of Halong Bay, Hue and Danang along the way. From here, we’ll head up to Cambodia, where vine-clad Khmer temples and floating villages await us. Finally, we’ll finish up in Laos, with three nights to explore the riverside caves, waterfalls and French architecture of Luang Prabang.

We’ll travel to Hoi An’s emerald outskirts to the sleepy village of Triem Tay, which is nestled on an island on the Thu Bon River. We’ll cross bamboo bridges, soak up the serene waterside views, stop by traditional homes and learn more about rural Vietnamese life.

Formerly Saigon, energetic Ho Chi Minh City is Vietnam’s biggest metropolis – a captivating hub of colonial architecture, skyscrapers, bustling markets, and vibrant nightlife. We’ll visit iconic sites like Reunification Palace, Reunification Hall, the ornate Central Post Office, and the opera house. We’ll also tuck into a Vietnamese feast in an atmospheric local restaurant.

A province in the peaceful Mekong Delta region, Ben Tre is known for its sprawling fruit orchards, floating markets, and serene waterways. We’ll tour the area by boat and tuk tuk, making pitstops at a traditional handicraft market, a 19th-century Bhuddist temple and a local honey producer.

A day of soul-searching among cultural treasures begins in the ancient city of Angkor Thom, where we’ll visit the Bayon Temple – famous for its 54 towers carved with stone faces – and Ta Prohm Temple, a mysterious, jungle-wrapped beauty that had a starring role in Tomb Raider. It’s then on to Angkor Wat, the world’s largest religious monument – a ‘city of temples’ edged by green-cloaked peaks.

Tonlé Sap is Southeast Asia’s largest freshwater lake, and we’ll sail to one of its floating villages for a look at a very different way of life. Complete with floating schools and homes, the village is made up of Crayola-coloured buildings that are either buoyed or held up in the water by stilts.

A wonderful way to wrap up our tour, we’ll head for The Royal Garden in Siem Reap, a space of trees, flowers and sacred shrines, which neighbours the King’s Palace. Here, we’ll have the chance to make a lotus offering to the Preah Ang Chek Preah Ang Chorm Shrine – said to bring protection and good luck.

Day 2 - Hanoi

This afternoon is our first exploration of the country’s leafy, elegant capital. We’ll wander along the wide, tree-lined boulevards of the French Quarter, where colonial buildings sit side-by-side. We’ll visit the Vietnam National Fine Arts Museum, before continuing to the peace and tranquillity of Ngoc Son Temple. This temple holds a charming location on a small island in the northern part of Hoan Kiem Lake. You’ll immediately feel relaxed as you breathe in the sweet incense-infused air. We’ll end the tour with a wander around the old quarter.

Day 3 - Hanoi

We’ll visit the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum and then his stilted house that stands in a peaceful lakeside setting, where we have a view of the interior from an outer staircase. As we walk back through the park we see the famous 12th-century One Pillar Pagoda. We continue to the Temple of Literature, and tread the paths once reserved for the Emperor and his mandarins. We conclude at West Lake for Quan Thanh Temple and Tran Quoc, one of the oldest Buddhist pagodas in Hanoi. The afternoon is at leisure before an interesting cultural experience at a water-puppet show in a local theatre.

Day 4 - Halong Bay

This morning we travel to Halong Bay, where some 3,000 rugged limestone islands rise pinnacle-like out of the South China Sea. This is one of the great natural sights in the world and on our cruise we’ll weave in and out of the islands and around the caverns and grottoes, before heading back to Hanoi.

Day 5 - Hanoi - Hue

Today we transfer to Hanoi Airport for our short flight to the imperial city of Hue, once the economic, religious and cultural epicentre of Vietnam.

Thien Mu Pagoda, Hue, Vietnam.

Day 6 - Hue

Our full-day tour takes us to the Imperial Citadel and then by boat along the Perfume River to Thien Mu Pagoda, an octagonal tower of seven tiers. The hills surrounding Hue are dotted with the tombs of the Nguyen Dynasty Emperors. This afternoon we visit Tu Duc and Khai Dinh Tomb before returning to our hotel.
