Introducing the MS Gil Eanes

For laid-back voyages along the River Douro with a charming French lilt, MS Gil Eanes is your ship. Named after a 15th-century Portuguese explorer, this sleek and contemporary vessel carries guests up and down the river from Porto.

Take a dip in the inflatable pool or lay back with a page-turner as you meander through the north of Portugal, flanked by miles of vineyards and idyllic towns. At breakfast, lunch and dinner, the all-inclusive menu dishes up a feast of Portuguese favourites. Think sweet custard tarts, caldo verde (a hearty soup of onions, kale, potatoes and onion) and feijoada (a bean, pork and beef stew). Plus, the local port is free-flowing.

Life on board

With a light, bright design that assumes a more relaxed tone, the ship is set over four decks, with 66 cabins sleeping 132 passengers. Cabins are spacious with window-facing beds – perfect for gazing out at the moving scenery. At the push of a button, a TV unfolds from a hidden slot in the ceiling.

On the main deck, the casual restaurant is where you will take all your meals. Each table enjoys a panoramic view.

The sun deck is the perfect place to unwind. Take a dip in the pool or peep out at the view from behind your book on a lounger - the best seat in the house for becoming immersed in the spectacular scenery.

Between mealtimes and relaxation, you might opt for a spot of fitness. Morning fitness classes take place each morning on the sun deck.

On the bow of the ship, enjoy panoramic views from the lounge bar and dancefloor. Cocktails, games, dancing and more happen here, so it’s worth a visit.

If you ever have any questions, the reception staff will gladly help. You can also find the Gift Shop here, for a spot of souvenir shopping.
