Our enchanting Switzerland tour and holidays
The Alpine nation of Switzerland is famous for its cheese, chocolate and cuckoo clocks but there is so much more to discover in this beautiful land of majestic mountains and lush green valleys. It is, of course, a major winter sports destination, and resorts such Davos - Europe’s highest town - and St Moritz welcome legions of skiers and snowboarders to their slopes, while in summer, they transform into bases for some of the country’s most scenic hiking trails. The charming capital city, Berne, is a delight to explore at any time of year. The medieval Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is particularly well-preserved, with its Renaissance fountains, its grand cathedral – the biggest in Switzerland – and impressive array of museums and galleries.
Also worth a look is the riverside Bear Park, a modern enclosure housing a number of brown bears, the city’s heraldic emblem. Sitting right on the border with both France and Germany, on the banks of the River Rhine, Basel is another architectural and cultural treasure-house, home to some 38 museums and an appealing city-centre Botanic Garden. And to enjoy the spectacular natural beauty of this country at its best, it’s hard to beat a journey on the celebrated Glacier Express as it winds its way through the glorious Swiss Alps.View all holidays to Switzerland

Once an essential staging post at a four-way crossroads, Andermatt is one of the largest of three towns in the valley. But it still retains its charm and bewildering wilderness. With acres of green space during the summer months and glistening snowy vistas in winter, the views in Andermatt are out of this world. And we’ll enjoy them from the Glacier Express train from the depths of the Rhine Gorge up to the 2033-metre-high Oberalp Pass.Lucerne
This spectacular lake with a breathtaking mountain backdrop is a must for any Switzerland travel itinerary. Wander the ancient Old Town, explore sunny piazzas and marvel at the pastel-coloured houses as you stroll along the pretty waterfront promenade. We’ll also admire the cobalt blue waters as we board a paddle steamer across the lake itself.
