Day 2 - Bled Castle and Bled Island
Today begins with a visit to Bled Castle, perched on a cliff above the lake. From here, you can enjoy sweeping views and gain an insight into the region’s history. Afterwards, we take a traditional pletna boat across the glacial waters to Bled Island. Encircled by mountains and forests, Lake Bled forms part of the Julian Alps, and that first glimpse of the island is sure to feel like stepping into a fairytale. This tiny, tear-shaped island is home to a striking 15th-century church, which you may visit if you wish (tickets can be purchased locally).

Your included excursion today visits Lake Bohinj, Slovenia’s largest glacial lake, nestled within the Bohinj Valley. Surrounded by striking mountain scenery, there is time to enjoy the peace and quiet of this serene setting. The route continues through the upper valley, with a relaxed walk in the alpine village of Stara Fužina, followed by a tasting of Bohinj cheese, bread and dried fruit. The excursion then reaches Lake Bohinj itself and the medieval Church of St John the Baptist, known for its well-preserved Middle Ages frescoes.
