We leave Rabat this morning for the Imperial City of Meknes. The sultan’s palace was said to rival Versailles, but since a powerful earthquake, only the Old Granaries and stables remain. As we explore them, you can imagine the grandeur of the rest of the complex.

We continue past the Holy City of Moulay Idriss, a site of pilgrimage named after the great grandson of the prophet Muhammed.

Later we proceed to the Roman city of Volubilis, a huge archaeological site renowned for its well-preserved mosaic floors. Even though only 25% has been uncovered so far, we’ll get a fascinating insight into Roman life in North Africa.
