What Makes Rocky Mountaineer So Special
The Rocky Mountaineer Experience
It is little surprise that Rocky Mountaineer is regularly voted one of the greatest rail journeys of all. But on our ‘Across Canada’ tour, (see full itinerary on page xx) you’ll get to combine this once-in-a-lifetime rail ride with Canada’s stellar line-up of big-name cities. The romantic French colonial architecture in Montreal and Quebec. Capital city, Ottawa. Bright and bustling Toronto, a stone’s throw from thundering Niagara Falls.Cutting-edge Vancouver. You’ll take in the very best of what this fascinating country has to offer – the perfect way to celebrate a big birthday or special anniversary. Or simple just because you want to be enthralled.
CuisineStep on board each morning and you’ll be greeted with the scent of just-baked cinnamon scones and fresh coffee. It’s just for starters, though - fluffy omelettes soon follow, or a menu of tempting treats (cranberry apple French toast, anyone?) if you’re travelling in GoldLeaf. You’ll be lunching on the likes of Alberta beef short ribs braised in local red, washed down with British Columbia wines. In between, nibble on complimentary gourmet snacks, or toast the journey with a signature cocktail (made with fresh ingredients picked up along the route.
SceneryScenery is a huge part of the Rocky Mountaineer experience. After all, you’re travelling through some of the world’s most spectacular landscapes. It’s not a ‘blink and you’ll miss it’ type of journey - an average speed of 30mph allows scenery to be savoured, and daylight-only travelling means you won’t miss a second of your surroundings.
The tracks snake through Alberta and British Columbia, with dramatic mountains, ancient glaciers, turquoise lakes and pine forests almost in touching distance. Admire them through dome-style windows from the comfort of your seat, or feel the breeze in one of the outdoor viewing areas. Then there’s the wildlife. If you notice the train slowing right down, it might be because a mother bear and its cub have been spotted ambling nearby, or a majestic eagle is swooping gracefully over a nearby river.
ServiceWhen you arrive at the station in anticipation of your journey, you’ll be met by the smiling faces of your Rocky Mountaineer hosts. Their warm Canadian welcome sets the tone for the rest of your journey. Nothing is too much trouble. Fancy a mid-morning snack? No problem. Another cup of coffee? Coming right up. Want to hear stories of adventure and intrigue in the towns you’re passing through? Just ask. Onboard hosts keep everything running smoothly on the train; luggage hosts take care of your suitcase for you; and destination hosts are on hand to ensure your hotel stay is as hassle-free as possible.
Can’t wait until boarding to taste the delicious cuisine? We’ve shared two of Rocky Mountaineer’s favourite onboard recipes – straight from the chefs that know them best.
