Fear of flying? Why no-fly cruising may be the perfect holiday solution

For many people, the prospect of boarding an aeroplane to head off on holiday can be daunting, and for a variety of reasons. For some, the very idea of flying brings them out in a cold sweat, others may have medical issues which make air travel uncomfortable or impossible, and of course there is also the hassle and stress associated with crowded airports, which can be off-putting to even the most seasoned of travellers. If flying isn’t for you, then a no-fly cruise may well be your ideal holiday.

There are many advantages to choosing a no-fly cruise for your next holiday. It’s convenient, for a start, and represents excellent value. There are several cruise ports dotted around the coast of the UK, so you won’t have to travel to one specific departure point to begin your no-fly cruise, cutting down on travel time and easing you gently into your holiday. Departing from a port within easy reach of your home means that you will begin your holiday in comfort, and of course you won’t have to contend with jetlag! With no lengthy flight, plus customs formalities and baggage claim waits at the other end eating into your time away, your no-fly cruise holiday begins the moment you step aboard your ship, and once you’ve settled into your cabin, you can relax and enjoy all the comforts and amenities on board.

An added benefit is that there are no restrictions on your baggage allowance, so unlike with flying, when you have to consider very carefully what to pack in your bags, you can carry as much aboard ship in your luggage as you like, so you can bring along everything you think you’ll need, and even some extra changes of clothes just to be on the safe side. On many cruises, there will be at least one formal evening where guests are encouraged to dress up, so you have another excuse to bring along a special outfit or two. And of course, you will also be able to buy as much as you like while you’re on holiday without worrying about paying excess baggage fees!

We offer a wide selection of no-fly cruises from a number of UK ports. Sailing from Tilbury, ‘Scotland, Iceland, Faroes & Shetlands’ is a captivating 16-day voyage to the lands of the Norsemen, stopping off in the Shetland Islands before continuing northwards to cruise around the spectacular coastline of Iceland, exploring this island nation’s unique geothermal landscapes and visiting the world’s most northerly capital city, Reykjavik. On the return voyage you’ll discover the rugged Faroe Islands, settled by the Vikings more than a thousand years ago, and the dramatic Orkney Islands.

And if the romance of the frozen north appeals, you are sure to enjoy ‘A Voyage to Remote Spitsbergen’, an unforgettable adventure with Fred. Olsen to the Arctic islands of Svalbard. Sailing from Liverpool, you’ll cross the North Sea to Norway, stopping to visit Ålesund and Honningsvag and experiencing the magical midnight sun. Sailing further into the Arctic Circle, you’ll cruise the coastlines of these starkly beautiful islands, docking in the largest town, Longyearbyen, overnight, and exploring the curious and now abandoned Russian mining settlement of Pyramiden. And along the way, you have a good chance of spotting the native reindeer, walruses and polar bears.

For those who prefer sunnier climes, ‘Spanish Islands of the Atlantic’ may be just the thing. Embarking your ship in Southampton, you’ll enjoy a leisurely cruise south to the lovely islands of La Gomera, La Palma, Fuerteventura and Tenerife. Renowned for their sandy beaches, stunning volcanic landscapes and historic seaside towns, they really are the ideal cruising destination. There will also be a day to explore the pretty ‘garden island’ of Madeira, with its famous Botanical Gardens, and time to see the sights of the elegant Portuguese capital, Lisbon.
