Eirlys Jones: Grand Safari Kenya

There can be few holidays that can rival a grand safari in terms of spectacle, wildlife and memorable vistas. This is Eirlys Jones’ memory of her tour a few years ago: 'Grand Safari Kenya'.

Eirlys’ journey took her on a tour of Kenya, making some memories she holds dear; with a tour including trips to the Masai Mara Game Reserve, Aberdare National Park, Lakes Nakuru and Naivasha, and the famous Treetops Lodge.

“Amazing” is how Eirlys’ describes her night’s stay at Treetops - the luxurious wooden lodge in the Aberdare mountains, set on stilts to offer incredible views and not disturb the animals. Famous as the location where (the then) Princess Elizabeth succeeded her father King George VI to the British throne in February 1952, its location by a watering hole also draws in a variety of wildlife - you can sit by with your drink as you watch elephants, rhino and buffalo having theirs in the setting African sun. A stay here really gets your tour off to a good start, and as Eirlys puts it: “fit for the Queen, fit for ME!”

Beyond the unforgettable views from Treetops, Grand Safari Kenya is truly one of our most spectacular safari holidays. Bringing to mind scenes from Out of Africa, you will doubtlessly be humming John Barry’s wonderful score from the film the whole time you are in Kenya. Whilst we cannot guarantee that you will see the elusive ‘Big Five’ (lions, leopards, elephants, rhino and buffalo), our days in the Game Reserves and National Parks will give you the best chance possible.

In addition to the Big Five, the grasslands and plains of this part of Africa also play host to a huge range of wonderful wildlife - look out for warthogs, secretary birds and Colobus monkeys, amongst many more - whilst the great lakes, formed as part of the Great Rift Valley, are home to scores of vibrantly coloured flamingo; truly a spectacular sight.

A truly memorable holiday - and one for which you will definitely want to bring your camera - 'Grand Safari Kenya' will gives everyone who goes on it memories to cherish like Eirlys’.

We would like to thank Eirlys for sharing hers with us today, even if they have really made us want to fly to Kenya right now!

Nicola considers herself very lucky to have had the opportunity to visit a number of places around the world and these experiences usually involve searching for as many kinds of wildlife as possible. Recent highlights include penguins in Antarctica, bears and whales in Canada and Alaska and sea otters in California - but there are always more animals to search for.
