Our pick: the best places to visit in March
March is an ideal time to travel to Jordan, as days are warm (expect temperatures into the high 20s) and nights are cool and comfortable. If you’re planning to hike to some of Petra’s famous sites or you fancy a soak in the Dead Sea, it’s a great time of year to visit.
One of India’s most colourful events usually takes place in March: Holi. This Hindu festival celebrates the beginning of spring and the victory of good over evil. Crowds gather in towns and cities across India, with everyone throwing coloured water and powders over each other – the streets are soon painted in a rainbow of colours. There’s often live music and dancing taking place, too.
“Spring is my favourite time to visit Morocco. In December and January it can get cold (and snowy up in the mountains), while in the height of summer the heat is pretty extreme. March and April offer mild temperatures that are ideal for exploring – plus it’s wildflower season.”

Dreaming of seeing Japan’s famous cherry blossom? Time your visit for late March, which is when the blossoms traditionally start to flower. Sights, parks and gardens are more crowded at this time of year (and prices are higher), but witnssing clouds of pale pink petals surrounding Japan’s temples and shrines is well worth it.
