What to expect on a solo tour

Our solo tours are special departures designed for people travelling by themselves. They cover some of the most exciting destinations in the world and include some real wish-list moments - you could spot wildlife in Costa Rica, stroll around Machu Picchu or gaze up at the rose-red Treasury at Petra.

On each tour, we've included a drinks reception on the first night. It’s ideal for getting to know everyone, whether you’re a first-timer and new to solo tours, or are returning to travel with us again.

Throughout, your tour manager will be on hand to make sure everyone gets the best out of their holiday. They’ll arrange pre-dinner drinks for those who fancy it, and where meals aren’t included, they’ll reserve restaurant tables for anyone who’d like to join them. If you’d rather a bit of time to yourself or you want to eat elsewhere, that’s fine too.

"Our tours are designed with ‘pace and space’ in mind. We aim to create just the right balance of time for socialising and making new friendships, and time to yourself."

- Ben, Head of Product

Your questions answered

Will I be staying in a room on my own?

Yes, you’ll always be able to return to the comfort of your own room. This gives you space whenever you need it, as well as comfortable surroundings where you can rest and get ready for the day or night ahead.

Will I make friends?

You’ll have the freedom to socialise as much or as little as you want, but we’ll provide plenty of opportunities for you to get to know everyone else on the tour. Travelling together is a wonderful way to get to know people - our customers often finish tours with lifelong friends (and future travel companions).

Will I have to eat dinner alone?

Not if you don’t want to. If you’d like some company, you can head along to an informal dinner led by your tour manager. The conversation always tends to flow when there’s a memorable day to reflect on - and perhaps a bottle of wine on the table. Your tour manager will let you know when and where to meet.

I can’t make the date for the solo tour I’d like to do. Are there any other options?

Of course - you’re more than welcome to join any of the regular departure dates for these tours, or any of our other holidays. Groups tend to be a mix of couples, friends, families and single travellers, so there’s always a lovely, friendly atmosphere.
Your tour manager can introduce you to other solo travellers in the group if you like, and we make it easy to mingle at every opportunity, organising coaches to excursions and meals where you can sit down and get chatting to your fellow travellers.

Do you offer any solo cruises?

While we don’t have any solo-specific voyages, we do welcome lots of solo travellers on cruises each year. Many of our exclusive river cruises have cabins with no single supplement available (these tend to book up quickly, so we’d recommend booking sooner rather than later), and you’ll stay in a spacious, comfortable twin cabin.

Ocean cruises are another great option. Mealtimes are sociable, with group seating allowing you to get to know other passengers. Some cruise lines also arrange informal drinks receptions or coffee mornings where you can meet others travelling by themselves. Your travel advisor can let you know all the details.
