Royal Windsor has many treasures, and a fascinating tour of Windsor Castle is only the beginning of this short break. After exploring charming Windsor town, steeped in the pageantry and history of the Royal Family, we take a pleasant boat cruise down the Thames, indulging in afternoon tea as we watch the racecourse, castle and Eton College glide by. We’ll spend our final full day discovering the spectacular botanical wonderland of the RHS Garden Wisley.
4 nights in hotel (accommodation as specified or similar)
Titan’s VIP door-to-door travel service collects you from home, for your journey to Macdonald Windsor Hotel (4T) in Windsor. We aim for you to arrive at the hotel between 4pm and 5pm. Spend the remaining afternoon at leisure, relaxing in the hotel or familiarising yourself with your surroundings - with Windsor Castle on your door step and the Thames River just a five-minute stroll away. Explore the town and you will also find high street shops, designer labels and souvenir shops sitting alongside quaint, specialist and antiques shops and tea rooms. Dinner at the hotel is included this evening.
Visit magnificent Windsor Castle, used regularly for ceremonial and State occasions. During its rich history of almost 1,000 years, Windsor Castle has been the home of 39 monarchs in total. The appearance of the State Apartments today reflects the changing tastes of the Castle’s royal occupants, particularly Charles II and George IV, and hold many royal treasures including Queen Mary's beautiful dolls’ house.
Thames River Cruise
After a free morning in Windsor, enjoy an afternoon sightseeing aboard a two-hour boat trip on the River Thames with cream tea. Departing from Windsor Promenade, the boat passes by Windsor racecourse, picturesque Boveney Lock and Bray film studios, the home of the classic Hammer Horror films. We reach Monkey Island, the small, well maintained island which has been graced by many a regal admirer and where George III was sent during his more extreme episodes of insanity, then turn back to Windsor where you will have excellent views of Eton College and Windsor Castle.
Please note: For the 4 July 2019 departure, the river cruise is not possible due to the Henley Regatta. You’ll enjoy a two-hour sightseeing tour by coach of the surrounding area, passing Royal Windsor Racecourse Bray Studios, Eton College, Royal Mausoleum and Frogmore House.
RHS Wisley Gardens
After breakfast, we embark on an included excursion to the RHS Wisley Gardens, British gardening exhibited at its best. Surrey’s awe-inspiring gardens cover 240 acres, and are home to extensive arrays of decorative gardens, Alpine houses, glasshouse and model gardens along with a laboratory conducting scientific research and training. Now recognised as one of the world’s finest gardens, you can admire the fruit field, the vegetable garden, rock garden, wild garden, the picturesque canal (which is a particularly magnificent sight when water lilies are in season), and capture the beautiful 12,000 different plants blooming in the remarkable Plant Centre. Enjoy an afternoon of leisure before your included dinner tonight.
