The southern county of Hampshire is home to stunning areas of natural beauty, long stretches of coast and a number of historical towns and cities, including England’s ancient capital, Winchester. In addition, join included excursions to Gilbert White’s House and the Watercress Line, where the past is brought back to life.
4 nights in hotel (accommodation as specified or similar)
Titan’s VIP door-to-door travel service collects you from home, for your journey to Winchester and the Winchester Royal Hotel (4T). We aim for you to arrive at the hotel between 4pm and 5pm. We are welcomed with tea, coffee and mince pies, followed by time to relax before dinner this evening.
Christmas Eve - Selbourne
Gilbert White’s interest in nature and our relationship with it inspired him to write works including ‘The Natural History and Antiquities of Selborne’, one of the most published books in the English language. Some 230 years on, this pioneering naturalist still influences followers of ecology. This morning we visit the house where he lived at various times in his life, which is now dedicated to him and his work, and you have time to explore the tranquil garden to which he dedicated so much time. A cream tea is included, before we return to our hotel to enjoy some free time in Winchester and begin our festive celebrations, with the option to attend Midnight Mass at a local church.
Christmas Day - Winchester
This morning you will have time to relax, before partaking in a Christmas lunch. This afternoon is yours to spend as you wish, before a buffet dinner is served this evening.
Boxing Day - The Watercress Line
This morning our coach takes us to the Watercress Line, where we experience the heritage Mid-Hants Railway in a uniquely memorable way. The line opened in 1865 to transport passengers and local watercress to London and beyond. Now with lovingly-restored trains, it runs the 10-mile route between the market towns of Alresford and Alton, travelling through beautiful Hampshire countryside and negotiating one of the steepest graded tracks in the country to reach Medstead and Four Marks, the highest station in Southern England. We travel to the Georgian town of Alresford to join civilian and military re-enactors and experience the atmosphere of a WWII Christmas on the railway, with song, dance and seasonal merriment. Your ticket will allow you to take as many journeys as you like between the four stations, all offering 1940s-style entertainment, as well an exhibition and the opportunity to view the restoration yard at Ropley.
Day 5 Winchester
This morning we have time for breakfast, before bidding farewell. You will be collected at 10am by your Titan vehicle, for the journey home.
