Christmas Eve - Winchester
The first Christian church of Winchester was built around AD 650. Fifteen centuries later it is a mighty medieval cathedral in the heart of Winchester. It’s a place of pilgrimage, a resting place for West Saxon kings and has been associated with many famous names, including King Alfred the Great and Jane Austen. We’ll visit today and take our own journey through its fascinating history. Later, we head to Winchester Theatre Royal, a stylish setting to enjoy a classic Christmas pantomime. Tonight, you have the option to attend Midnight Mass at a local church.
Christmas Day - Winchester
Merry Christmas! Spend the morning relaxing before our Christmas lunch is served. Perhaps take a stroll around the local area this afternoon to walk off your lunch.
Boxing Day - The Watercress Line
We travel to The Watercress Line this morning, where we experience the heritage Mid Hants Railway in a uniquely memorable way. The line opened in 1865 to transport passengers and local watercress to London and beyond. Now with a lovingly restored train, the line runs between the market towns of Alresford and Alton, travelling through the beautiful Hampshire countryside. It even tackles the steepest graded tracks in the entire country to reach the highest station in Southern England, Medstead and Four Marks. We’ll climb aboard and travel to the Georgian town of Alresford to join the amazing civilian and military re-enactors and experience the atmosphere of a WWII Christmas on the railway, with song, dance and seasonal merriment. You’re free to explore between the four stations as you please - each stop offering 1940s-style entertainment.
