Christmas Eve - Selbourne
Since around 650 AD, the first Christian church of Winchester has become a mighty medieval cathedral, a place of pilgrimage, and a resting place for West Saxon kings and St Swithun, a former bishop renowned for his healing abilities. St Peter’s has been associated with many famous names, including King Alfred the Great, King Cnut, Mary Tudor and Jane Austen. We take a journey through 1,400 years of history on our visit. Later, we head to Winchester Theatre Royal, a stylish setting to enjoy a classic Christmas pantomime.
Tonight, you have the option to attend Midnight Mass at a local church.
Christmas Day - Winchester
This morning you will have time to relax, before partaking in a Christmas lunch. This afternoon is yours to spend as you wish, before a buffet dinner is served this evening.
Boxing Day - The Watercress Line
This morning our coach takes us to the Watercress Line, where we experience the heritage Mid-Hants Railway in a uniquely memorable way. The line opened in 1865 to transport passengers and local watercress to London and beyond. Now with lovingly-restored trains, it runs the 10-mile route between the market towns of Alresford and Alton, travelling through beautiful Hampshire countryside and negotiating one of the steepest graded tracks in the country to reach Medstead and Four Marks, the highest station in Southern England. We travel to the Georgian town of Alresford to join civilian and military re-enactors and experience the atmosphere of a WWII Christmas on the railway, with song, dance and seasonal merriment. Your ticket will allow you to take as many journeys as you like between the four stations, all offering 1940s-style entertainment, as well an exhibition and the opportunity to view the restoration yard at Ropley.
