Day 2 - At sea
Relax on board Balmoral today and after settling in, take the time to familiarise yourself with your ship’s extensive facilities.
Day 3 - Oban - cruising past Duart Castle - cruising Firth of Lorn
Our first port of call is Oban, known as the ‘Gateway to the Isles’ and surrounded by dramatic mountains, lochs and islands. The town hosts a number of award-winning restaurants, while local points of interest include Oban Distillery, one of the oldest whisky producers in Scotland, which offers guided tours. There are a number of locations in the stunning countryside around Oban which you may recognise from your trips to the cinema, including the Glenfinnan Viaduct, which appears in two of the Harry Potter films. Our cruise continues, passing the impressive 13th century Duart Castle and sailing the beautiful Firth of Lorn between the Isle of Mull and the Slate Islands. Ship to shore tender service.
Day 4 - Belfast
We spend today in Northern Ireland’s capital city, Belfast. Fans of the hit TV show, ‘Game of Thrones’ will enjoy exploring filming locations such as Castle Ward, Inch Abbey and Tollymore Forest, while others might like to visit the Titanic Belfast museum, standing on the site of the former shipyard where the ill-fated ocean liner was built. The geological wonder of the Giant’s Causeway, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, can also be visited on a day-trip from the city.
Day 5 - Dublin, Ireland
Ireland’s lively capital, Dublin, is a joy to explore, and film fans will find plenty of interest. Scenes from ‘Educating Rita’ were filmed in Trinity College, Ireland’s oldest university, while the former Kilmainham Gaol features in ‘The Italian Job’. Alternatively, learn about the nation’s past in the splendid National Museum, spend time wandering through the bohemian Temple Bar neighbourhood, or relax in the more peaceful surroundings of Phoenix Park, one of the largest urban public gardens in Europe. And if you want to know more about the ‘little people,’ the National Leprechaun Museum is the place to go!
Day 6 - Falmouth
This morning we arrive in Falmouth, on the beautiful south coast of Cornwall. Possessing the third largest natural harbour in the world, Falmouth is a popular sailing centre and seaside resort as well as an ideal base for excursions to the Lost Gardens of Heligan and the Eden Project. If you’ve been inspired by the popular BBC TV adaptation of ‘Poldark’, you might like to visit filming locations such as Charlestown, with its Grade II-listed harbour and picturesque Porthgwarra.
Day 7 - Portland
We visit the Isle of Portland, on Dorset’s UNESCO-listed Jurassic Coast today. The traditional seaside resort of Weymouth is nearby, and a number of attractive towns and villages are within easy reach, including Sherborne, where scenes from the 2015 adaptation of ‘Far From the Madding Crowd’ were filmed and Lyme Regis, where ‘The French Lieutenant’s Woman’ (1981) was filmed, as well as scenes from ‘Persuasion’ (1995) and the popular ITV drama, ‘Broadchurch’.
Day 8 - At sea
Enjoy your final day aboard Balmoral as we sail along the English coast, perhaps taking a dip in the pool or unwinding with a relaxing massage in the spa centre.
Day 9 Newcastle
We disembark after breakfast and you will be met and guided to your Titan vehicle, for the journey home.
