Day 2 North Norfolk Railway

The North Norfolk Railway ran from 1887 to 1924. Today it’s one of Britain’s most scenic heritage railways, restored to its glory days. We head to Sheringham this morning, home of the railway’s quaint Victorian headquarters. After some free time we’ll board a vintage coach, pulled by a steam or diesel engine, for a nostalgic journey through some of Norfolk’s most stunning coastal countryside and beautiful wooded hills (dubbed 'Poppyland' by Clement Scott), pausing at historic stations.

  • A journey on the North Norfolk Railway (morning)

Day 3 Norwich - Wroxham

Ruined city walls mark the boundary of one of the most complete medieval cities in Britain. Norwich was once the country’s second most important city, growing in both size and wealth throughout the Middle Ages. As we explore on a coach tour, its story unfolds at the sturdy Norman castle and magnificent cathedrals. You have further time to admire these landmarks independently; perhaps walk through the wonderful cobbled Cathedral Quarter and the Grade II heritage Plantation Garden.

We’ll then continue to Wroxham and take a boat cruise on the Norfolk Broads. As we glide along the scenic waters of this well-known area of beauty, look out for quaint buildings along the shoreline, or some of the local water birds.

  • Guided city tour of Norwich and boat ride on the Norfolk Broads (all day)

Day 4 Sandringham

The Sandringham Estate has been a beloved private home of British monarchs for four generations. We will take a look at some of its beautifully decorated rooms, regularly used by the Royal Family yet still very much as they were in Edwardian times. The estate’s museum includes photos, memorabilia, and a collection of vintage Royal cars, from children’s toy vehicles to the Estate’s own Merryweather Fire Engine. The gardens cover 60 acres with formal, Edwardian-style planting, giving way to hundreds of acres of woodland and heath to enjoy.

  • Visit to Sandringham Estate (morning)
