Manchester Short Break
Day 1 Manchester
Titan’s VIP door-to-door travel service collects you from home for your journey to Manchester. We aim for you to arrive at the hotel between 4pm and 5pm, where the remainder of the day is free to settle in.
Day 2 Anderton Boat Lift
Today we pay a visit to the Anderton Boat Lift, a grand feat of Victorian engineering originally constructed in 1875. To experience the boat lift in the best way, we’ll combine a peaceful river cruise with a trip up and down the lift itself. As the glass-sided boat scales the 50 metres between the River Weaver and the Trent and Mersey Canal, listen as the guide shares captivating tales of the lift and its workers. We’ll lazily glide along the River Weaver, accompanied by stories of the area’s industrial heritage. Make sure you keep your eyes peeled for the local wildlife that makes its home along the riverbank. We’ll have plenty of time to enjoy the visitor centre too. It’s packed full of information on the boat lift’s history and how it works, both then and now.
Day 3 Manchester
Our full day in Manchester begins with a sightseeing coach tour of the city. We’ll stop at The John Rylands Library and the nearby memorial to the code breaker and computing pioneer Alan Turing. We’ll see Chinatown and the striking architecture of Manchester Cathedral, before concluding in Salford Quays - a waterfront collection of cafés, shops and galleries. Afterwards, there’ll be free time to explore. Maybe take a walk around The Lowry, an arts centre named after LS Lowry and home to the world’s largest collection of his paintings. If you prefer, the Imperial War Museum North is only a short walk across the river.
Day 4 Tatton Park
We’ll head south into Cheshire today, to the lovely historic estate of Tatton Park. The grounds and buildings are fascinating to explore, showcasing life here in days gone by. Maybe wander through the elegant neo-classical mansion, where the Egerton family’s wealth can be seen alongside the more lowly servants’ quarters. See the medieval Old Hall, once the heart of the estate. Or meet animals on an authentic 1930s working farm. Why not complete your visit with a stroll around some of the 50 acres of glorious gardens and 2,000 acres of deer park.
Day 5 Manchester
You’ll be collected at 10am by your Titan vehicle for the journey home.
