Royal Albert Hall - Kensington Palace
On 20 May 1867, Queen Victoria laid the foundation stone for the Royal Albert Hall, a magnificent monument to the arts, and her beloved Prince Consort. For nearly 150 years it’s been holding international exhibitions and great British music traditions, such as the annual performance of Handel’s Messiah on Good Friday, and the Last Night of the Proms. Our tour will take you through the Hall to learn of legendary performances and stories. Later, we’ll visit Kensington Palace. William III and Mary II turned this modest mansion into a royal retreat, which was embellished over the following three centuries by Stuart and Georgian monarchs. It has been home to many royals, including the current residents, TRH the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
Enjoy a coach tour of London’s iconic sights such as Buckingham Palace, the official London residence of the UK's sovereigns since 1837; St James’ Park, the Royal Park which encompasses The Mall and Horse Guards Parade; and Westminster Abbey, the nation’s Coronation church since William the Conqueror and host of many royal weddings. We’ll also see the Houses of Parliament, site of the main Courts of Law since the late 15th century; and adjacent Elizabeth Tower, home of Big Ben. Afterwards, board the London Eye for fantastic views over the rooftops of London, including Westminster; and then take your seat on a river cruise to see even more - St Paul’s Cathedral, the Tower of London, Tower Bridge and Shakespeare’s Globe all look magnificent along the banks of the Thames.
The Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew is London’s largest UNESCO World Heritage Site, awarded this honour for its great display of gardening throughout the 18th-20th centuries, with contributions from internationally renowned landscape architects including Kent and Capability Brown. The rich collection of plant life has also made a huge contribution to science. Whilst here, you can explore the exotic rainforest in the Palm House, follow a walkway into the treetops for a bird’s eye view of the extensive grounds, and enter Kew Palace, the summer residence of King George III.
