Day 2 Christmas Eve - Blackpool
A guide will accompany us this morning as we take a coach tour of Blackpool. This popular resort was a quiet seaside hamlet until the belief was spread in the 18th century that sea water could cure diseases. It didn’t truly blossom though until the Victorian Age, a boom which encouraged the addition of its promenades, piers and pleasure gardens. Our tour takes in famous sights which came to life during this era, such as the beautiful Grand Theatre, the iconic 154m-high Blackpool Tower, home of the elegantly ornate Blackpool Tower Ballroom; and the Winter Gardens, home of both the Opera House, where Frank Sinatra and Judy Garland have performed, and the elegant Empress Ballroom, where the Rolling Stones played a controversial gig in 1964 that led to the band’s citywide ban. The rest of the day is at leisure to explore the sights further. Although the rides are closed for winter, you will find a selection of arcades on a stroll down one of the three famous piers; the North Pier is a particular delight with notes of its Victorian heritage. Along the promenade you can find the Comedy Carpet, immortalising the jokes and catchphrases of Britain’s most loved comedians in concrete. Or those who aren’t faint of heart may like to visit the Blackpool Tower Dungeon, where scenes of Lancashire’s dark history and legends are brought to life by a cast of sinister characters, including Alizon Device, one of the notorious Pendle Witches. If you wish to spend the afternoon at the hotel, afternoon tea will be available and then a delicious dinner followed by entertainment to fuel the festive spirit.
Day 3 Christmas Day - Blackpool
Enjoy a leisurely Christmas Day, full of food and festivities. Beginning with a breakfast buffet, your morning is free to relax or take a brisk winter walk along the seemingly endless, beautifully refurbished Blackpool seafront. Make sure you’re back for lunch, when a delicious three-course Christmas dinner is served. A quiz will exercise your brain as you relax at the hotel this afternoon, before a hot and cold buffet is served through the evening and entertainment will keep the celebrations going.
Day 4 Boxing Day - Lytham Hall
This morning we take a drive to the wonderful 78-acre estate of Lytham Hall. Considered the finest Georgian Hall in Lancashire, this grand property was completed in 1764, with a few Victorian additions and notes of the Jacobean house which stood here previously. The Clifton family who resided here for generations had a colourful story, including being accused of conspiracy during the Lancashire plot to restore James II to the throne. You can learn of their rise and fall as we explore the house, and stay here for afternoon tea, before returning to our hotel. This evening we have a gala dinner arranged at the hotel, with live music to keep you dancing into the night.
Please note: There is no lift available to upper floors of Lytham Hall. Smart dress is required for the gala dinner.
Day 5 Blackpool
This morning we have time for breakfast, before bidding farewell. You will be collected at 10am by your Titan vehicle, for the journey home.
