Deviate a little from the beaten track and a new picture of California emerges - one that enchants with stunning beaches, vanilla-scented pine forests, dramatic mountains and sweeping deserts. Begin in the laid-back and free-thinking city of San Francisco, dominated by its iconic Golden Gate Bridge, before journeying leisurely along the Californian Pacific coast and inland, taking in lesser-visited gems such as Monterey, Cambria, the stylish Santa Barbara, contemporary San Diego and the desert resort of Palm Springs. The Pacific coast dazzles, especially on the iconic stretches of highway - Big Sur and 17 Mile Drive - reminding travellers of the wild beauty behind the Californian glitz. This sparkle and glitz becomes ever grander in the 24-hour neon of Las Vegas, where we conclude with two full days to explore.

Titan’s VIP door-to-door travel service collects you from home, for your journey to London Heathrow Airport and a direct, scheduled Virgin Atlantic flight to San Francisco. On arrival we transfer to the ideally located Holiday Inn Golden Gateway Hotel (4T) or Parc 55 Hilton Hotel (4T).
This morning we have arranged a city tour of San Francisco, which, with its colourful mix of cultures, is one of the world’s most sophisticated cities. The afternoon is free to explore. A boat trip on the Bay is highly recommended, as is a visit to the famous Alcatraz prison.
San Francisco - Monterey
Today we travel south towards Monterey, where seals and otters disport alongside the attractive pier. After a coffee stop we take the famous 17 Mile Drive, said to be one of the most beautiful coastlines in the world, discreetly dotted with millionaires’ homes and fronted by a coastal golf course. We overnight at the Casa Munras Monterey (4T).
Monterey - Carmel - Cambria
We continue south, first to Carmel, located on a breathtaking white sand beach. We then join the Big Sur coastline, whose dramatic aspect is protected so that only a select few have homes that overlook the breakers of the Pacific. We arrive at our hotel, the Cambria Pines Lodge (3T+), home for the next two nights.
This morning you are free to further explore Cambria. This afternoon we visit Hearst Castle. Almost three quarters of a century ago, publisher William Randolph Hearst began building a magnificent 137-acre estate he called ‘The Enchanted Hill’, which today houses a vast collection of art and antiques, gardens, terraces and walkways.
Cambria - Long Beach
We travel on to Solvang to explore this delightful town founded by the Danes in 1911. Discover the variety of art and craft shops and the choice of tempting bakeries on the town’s flower-lined streets. Later this morning we depart for our brief visit to the mission town of Santa Barbara with its beautiful waterfront setting. We then continue south to Santa Monica for another brief stop before reaching Long Beach. Our hotel for the next two nights is the Hilton Long Beach (4T) or Hotel Maya Long Beach (4T).
A full day to explore the waterfront city of Long Beach. Why not visit the Aquarium of the Pacific, with its huge viewing tanks, the Shoreline Village with its laid-back marina and the magnificent Queen Mary, all just a short distance from your hotel.
Los Angeles - San Diego
We commence a short orientation tour of Los Angeles, encompassing Hollywood, Sunset Boulevard and fashionable Rodeo Drive, before we travel down to San Diego and our overnight hotel, the Sheraton Marina (4T).
San Diego - Palm Springs
We continue to Palm Springs, the California desert resort with an air of sophistication. Following our early afternoon arrival, the remainder of the day is free to explore as you wish and a short walk will uncover a variety of restaurants and shops. Our hotel for tonight is the Hyatt Regency and Suites (4T).
Palm Springs - Las Vegas
This morning we head across the desert to Las Vegas. Upon arrival we take you on an orientation tour of the city to view the array of hotels and casinos, before we transfer to our hotel, Harrah’s (3T) Las Vegas for our three-night stay.
A full two days to explore the city independently. The opportunities are endless, from viewing the colourful and amazing spectacles of the resorts themselves; gambling in the famous casinos; or maybe taking in one of the world-class shows running nightly in the hotel’s vast theatres. During your stay you may also wish to take an optional flight to the awe-inspiring Grand Canyon. Your Tour Manager will be happy to assist with arranging this during your stay.
Las Vegas - In flight
Today we transfer to Las Vegas Airport for a direct, scheduled Virgin Atlantic flight to London.
