India’s Golden Triangle and the Sacred Ganges
Day 1 UK - In flight
Titan’s VIP door-to-door travel service collects you from home for your flight to New Delhi.
Day 2 New Delhi
Arrive in Delhi and meet your Uniworld representative, before transferring to the Oberoi New Delhi (5-star).
Day 3 New Delhi
India’s seat of power for nearly a thousand years, Delhi bridges two distinctly different worlds - Old Delhi, the former capital, with its narrow lanes and splendid mosques; and New Delhi, established by the British, with wide tree-lined boulevards and handsome buildings. Spend your first full day in India getting a panoramic overview of the city’s top sights.
Day 4 New Delhi - Agra
We head south to Agra and our hotel, the Oberoi Amarvilas (5-star). Enjoy a leisurely afternoon, then as the sun sets, visit the Taj Mahal - commissioned by the broken-hearted Emperor Shah Jahan after his beloved wife died in childbirth.
Day 5 Agra - Jaipur
Venture back to the Taj Mahal early in the morning, when the pristine white marble monument is aglow with the soft pink lustre of dawn, and learn of its fascinating history, perfect proportions, precious building materials and intricate craftsmanship. After a scenic drive to Jaipur, the capital of the Indian state of Rajasthan, check in at the regal Oberoi Rajvilas (5-star).
Day 6 Jaipur
Your tour of romantic Jaipur includes City Palace and the UNESCO-designated Jantar Mantar, a centuries-old observatory housing the world’s largest sundial and a superb collection of astronomical instruments. Relax during the afternoon or take a complimentary shuttle into town to explore the city’s bazaar.
Day 7 Jaipur - Kolkata
Transfer to Jaipur International Airport and fly to Kolkata, India’s second-largest city, a clamorous yet captivating metropolis situated on the Lower Ganges. Cap off the day with a cultural performance on board the Ganges Voyager II (5-star).
Day 8 Kalna
As incredible as it sounds, India is the birthplace of four of the world’s major religions (including Buddhism and Hinduism), and Kalna - India’s ‘Temple City’ - has some of the most magnificent examples of Hindu temples on the entire subcontinent. Kalna, once an important trade port on the river, is best known today for the magnificent Hindu temples built by the maharajas of Bardhaman in the late 18th and 19th centuries. They are your destination today.
Day 9 Matiari
Observe master craftsmen at work in Matiari, an artisans’ village revered for its finely wrought brassware. There will also be time to shop for village-made goods. Back on board, roll up your sleeves for a mehndi demonstration and learn how to tie a sari and a turban.
Day 10 Murshidabad - Baranagar
Curiosities abound in India, and that includes the country’s eclectic architectural styles. You’ll see a palace with a thousand doors, along with some famous terracotta carvings, the ruins of a mosque and yet another cultural curiosity - the game of cricket. Today’s adventures take you to a duo of Bengali towns - Murshidabad and Baranagar - each one boasting surprising and beautiful architectural monuments closely linked to the ruling families of the area.
Day 11 Mayapur
Today the ship heads back toward Kolkata, cruising past lush fields of rice and sugarcane. You still have some fascinating locations to visit and your stop is in Mayapur, sometimes called the spiritual capital of the world.
Day 12 Mayapur - Bandel - Chandannagar - Kolkata
Few places of worship exist like Mayapur, the centre of the international Hare Krishna movement and home to the new Temple of the Vedic Planetarium. You’ll visit a former French outpost today, as well as a famous Shia pilgrimage centre. You’ll continue to cruise toward Kolkata, stopping en route in Bandel and Chandannagar, a little piece of France that survived in India for a couple of centuries.
Day 13 Kolkata
The city of Kolkata is virtually synonymous with the enduring legacies of Mother Teresa - recently canonized as a Catholic saint - and the colonial-era British Raj, both of which you will get better acquainted with today. Tonight, enjoy a farewell dinner.
Day 14 Kolkata - UK
Disembark the ship and transfer to the airport for your return flight to the UK. Upon arrival, your Titan vehicle will be waiting for the journey home.
