London - Venice
Titan’s VIP door-to-door travel service collects you from home, for your journey to London Gatwick Airport and a direct, scheduled British Airways flight to Venice. On arrival we transfer to the Almar Jesolo Resort & Spa (5T).
This morning we take a tour of the iconic city of Venice, taking in much loved sights such as St Mark’s Square, surrounded by stately public buildings on three sides and remarkably elaborate Basilica di San Marco on the fourth. The afternoon is free to make your own discoveries, with a seemingly endless list of beautiful buildings and fantastic art collections to choose from. For an alternative experience, a book lover will be amused by Libreria Acqua Alta, an eccentric and chaotic bookshop which uses bathtubs and gondolas to present their books and protect them from the periodic winter floods. Or dip into neighbourhood churches to find priceless paintings.
Enjoy more time at leisure in this beautiful city before an afternoon excursion to discover the secrets behind traditional Italian cuisine. Using local ingredients, learn how to make traditional meals of homemade pasta (in a number of forms) and sauces (meat and vegetable), followed by a taste of the delicious food.
Day 4 - Venice
Enjoy some more free time to delve into Venice’s back streets before we transfer to embark Rhapsody of the Seas® (3T+) this afternoon, with time to settle in before dinner.
Day 5 - Dubrovnik, Croatia
Dubrovnik is a beautiful city of carefully restored marble streets lined with ancient stone palaces and religious sanctuaries. For fantastic photo opportunities, take a walk along the city walls, a magnificent defence strengthened by semi-circular bastions and towers which offer an interesting view of the Old Town’s red roofs and surrounding area; or take the cable car to the summit of Mount Srdj. If you prefer to stay closer to terra firma, the town’s grid of alleyways is a delight to explore.
Day 6 - At sea
Spend your day at sea relaxing in the onboard Spa, taking a language or dance lesson, enjoying a show at the theatre and experiencing the incredible dining venues.
Day 7 - Kusadasi (Ephesus), Turkey
Transfer from the port to the incredible ancient city of Ephesus. Many notable events occurred in this area, including the murder of Arsinoe IV, Cleopatra’s sister, in 41 BC. Mark Antony and Cleopatra of Egypt are thought to have visited Ephesus the same year. Excavations have revealed grand Roman monuments including the Library of Celsus and the Great Theatre. You may also see the magnificent marble Temple of Artemis although, sadly, little remains of this, one of the Seven Wonders of the World.
Day 8 - Santorini, Greece
Santorini is an island of myths and beauty. On shore, ascend 895ft to the photogenic capital of Fira - perched on the edge of an impressive volcanic cliff, it is reachable from the port by donkey, cable car, or a flight of 600 steps! You will be rewarded with gorgeous views of this typically Cycladic village of charming white houses and the partially submerged volcano. See the symbol of Santorini, Agíou Miná church with its distinctive blue-domed bell tower. The Santorini Archaeological Museum holds artefacts from ancient Thira, while the Megaron Gyzi Museum has a fascinating collection of Fira before the devastating earthquake of 1956. Ship to shore tender service.
Day 9 - Katakolon (Olympia), Greece
Katakolon is a pretty port in soft, traditional colours with small but interesting museums. For many people though, it is known as a gateway to one of Greece’s most historic landmarks. Located in a lush green valley of pine and olive groves, is one of the most important archaeological sites in the world - the stunning stadium of Ancient Olympia was the largest of its kind, seating up to 30,000 spectators. Known as the birthplace of the Olympic Games some 3,000 years ago, it still plays a role in the international event when Greek priestesses invoke Apollo to send his divine light to the world - the Olympic Flame. Choose to visit here and you can walk through the impressive ruins where athletes used to train, and visit the temple of Zeus, where a 40ft statue of this king of gods, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, was worshipped.
Day 10 - At sea
Time to relax as we sail towards Venice.
Day 11 Venice - London
