Day 2 - Koblenz
Early this morning we arrive in Koblenz, where you will have free time to make your own discoveries. Perhaps visit the impressive 19th century Ehrenbreitstein Fortress, or take a stroll through the historic city centre and to Deutsches Eck (German Corner) at the confluence of the Rhine and Moselle rivers. Our visit today coincides with the traditional ‘Rhine in Flames’ festivities celebrating the local wines with spectacular firework displays and live music this evening - a memorable experience. We set sail late tonight.
Day 3 - Cruising the River Rhine
We enjoy a relaxing day on board our ship today as we sail through the beautiful landscapes of the Rhine Valley towards Switzerland.
Day 4 - Basel
This afternoon we are in the Swiss city of Basel, which shares borders with both France and Germany. An included city tour, that allows us to experience Basel’s history up close, begins with a panoramic overview, before continuing on foot to discover the historic centre within the 14th century city walls. Be enchanted by romantic little lanes, town houses, the market with its town hall and the red sandstone cathedral. There will be time to enjoy on your own before returning to the ship by coach.
Day 5 - Kehl (Strasbourg)
Our vessel docks in the German port of Kehl this afternoon, for an overnight stay. An included excursion takes us to Strasbourg, France - the capital city of the Alsace region. Allow yourself to fully take in the picturesque backdrop of old and new, with visits to Strasbourg Cathedral - one of the most beautiful buildings in eastern France and the old town ‘Petite France’ - a true gem.
Day 6 - Kehl
Kehl is an attractive town which dates back to the 11th century, and is linked by a bridge to its larger neighbour in Alsace. There will be free time to relax or explore on your own, before we sail this evening.
Day 7 - Mainz - cruising the Middle Rhine Valley
Mainz is one of Germany’s oldest cities, established as a Roman fortress more than 2,000 years ago, and this morning we will take a walking tour, visiting some of its most engaging attractions. We will call at the Romanesque St Martin’s Cathedral, which dates back to the 10th century, the 13th century Helig Geist Spital - one of Europe’s oldest hospital buildings - and the Gutenberg Museum, which houses a collection of rare early printed books produced by Mainz native Johannes Gutenberg. We leave this afternoon, and enjoy a scenic cruise through the UNESCO-listed Middle Rhine Valley, passing the fabled Lorelei Rock where legend tells of a young maiden who, unlucky in love, leaped to her death from this rock. She was transformed into a water nymph, her song luring unwary fishermen to their doom.
Day 8 Cologne - Folkestone
An early morning arrival back in Cologne, where, after breakfast, we disembark and board our waiting coaches, to take us on the return journey to Calais and a Eurotunnel or ferry crossing to Folkestone. Upon arrival at The Grand Hotel, you will be met and guided to your Titan vehicle, for the journey home.
