Day 2 - Vienna - Bratislava
This morning we have included a city tour of Vienna to discover the highlights of this beautiful imperial city, its opulent palaces and extravagant monuments, and enjoy a coffee in a typical Viennese coffee house, where locals have perfected the art of lingering over a cup while putting the world to rights or absorbing a newspaper. Afterwards we transfer to Bratislava by coach where we re-join the ship. There will be the opportunity to join an optional city tour or independently explore Slovakia’s compact capital, full of old-town charm. Climb up to the old castle, rebuilt several times since its Roman inception, for great views over the city and river. We set sail this evening.
Day 3 - Dürnstein - Weissenkirchen
Arrive in the quaint town of Dürnstein this morning, known for its wonderful buildings and for the castle, now in ruins, where King Richard the Lionheart was once imprisoned. Enjoy wandering along the narrow cobbled streets lined with tiny shops filled with a variety of locally grown products from the Wachau Valley, or join an optional guided walk to learn some of the history of this beautiful town. Return to the ship for lunch and set sail for Weissenkirchen arriving early afternoon. Enjoy free time this afternoon exploring this picturesque village in the heart of the Wachau, surrounded by ancient vineyards and forest. Many wineries are based here, offering tasters of their very own Riesling.
Day 4 - Linz - Passau
Awake in Linz this morning where you will have free time to explore this elegant city. Stroll around the Old Town or perhaps try some Linzer torte - a cake that has been made for over 300 years. Awarded European Capital of Culture in 2009 for its love of fine, contemporary and interactive arts, the city centre is a modern, colourful metropolis. Return to the ship for an afternoon of sailing to Passau, where the Danube meets the Inn and Ilz. We remain overnight.
Day 5 - Passau - Deggendorf
Rebuilt by Italian masters after fire devastated much of the city’s ancient heirlooms in 1662, the city has a distinctly Baroque character. Join an optional walking tour of Passau this morning starting in the medieval section of the town and then passing the magnificent St Stephen’s Cathedral with its three characteristic green onion-domed towers - home to Europe’s largest pipe organ with 17,974 pipes. Alternatively you can explore at your own pace before returning to the ship for lunch. The ship will depart Passau and head to Deggendorf, arriving this evening.
Day 6 - Deggendorf - Regensburg
This morning is spent in the picturesque small town of Deggendorf where you can explore at your leisure, before lunch and a leisurely sailing along the Danube for the rest of the day.
Day 7 - Regensburg - Kelheim
This morning you can choose to join an optional walking tour of Regensburg, the first capital of Bavaria and one of the best-preserved medieval towns in Germany. The beautiful pedestrianised old quarter is the perfect spot to find regional handcrafted gifts. From here there is a further optional visit to the Benedictine Weltenburg Abbey, Bavaria’s oldest monastery famous for its brewery, from where you will travel by coach to re-join the ship in Kelheim. Alternatively spend the afternoon relaxing on board as the ship sails from Regensburg to Kelheim.
Day 8 Nuremberg - Munich - London
Following breakfast this morning, we disembark the ship and transfer to Munich Airport for a direct, scheduled British Airways flight to London Heathrow where you will be met and guided to your Titan vehicle for the journey home.
