Swedish Waterways

Including a two-night stop in Stockholm

Some memorable cruises present a broad-brush introduction to the great cities of the Baltic; others take in the scenic splendour of the Norwegian fjords. This, though, really is a cruise with a difference, focused on the beautiful, sometimes overlooked country of Sweden and its own lesser-known yet still spectacular fjords. Sail from Newcastle to maximise sightseeing time - sightseeing that will include the attractive cities of Helsingborg, Gothenburg and Stockholm, the stunning Stockholm Archipelago and several gorgeous fjords.

The pretty coastal town of Lysekil is the gateway to Sweden’s fjords - less celebrated than the fjords of Norway yet still genuinely spectacular, an unforgettable day may be spent in appreciation of their scenic bounty. We take in Sweden’s largest fjord today - deep blue Gullsmarsfjord - along with two distinctive and beautiful branches of this great waterway, Farlevfjord and Saltkallefjord.

Day 6 - Cruising Stockholm Archipelago - Stockholm (overnight)

Between the Baltic Sea and the Swedish capital, the vast Stockholm Archipelago comprises some 30,000 islands, from tiny skerries to idyllic resort islands. A cruise through its waters is endlessly photogenic and presents perhaps the finest introduction to any city on earth. Ship to shore tender service.

Balmoral (3T+)

Day 7 - Stockholm (overnight)

Stockholm itself is just as delightful, a lovely canvas of islands and bridges, lakes and forests, with a characterful old town at its heart, where cobbled streets are lined with fine historic buildings. Lovers of museums will be in their element - the Vasa Ship Museum presents an enthralling insight into the country’s maritime heritage, for example, and the ABBA Museum celebrates a more modern and colourful Swedish phenomenon. Ship to shore tender service.
