    Valencia

The innovative city of Valencia offers a perfect mix of history and the ultra-modern. We’ll spend the morning exploring its older side on a guided tour, taking in the best bits including the lively Central Market, a food market housed in a striking Valencian art nouveau building. Adorned at this time of year with a host of twinkling lights, it’s also the home of the city’s main Christmas market, with plenty of stalls to explore.
Across from the market is the UNESCO-listed La Lonja de la Seda. This 15th-century fortress-like, Gothic building was the Silk Exchange - look out for the gargoyles that stare down at you from the top. Within the exquisite interiors of Valencia Cathedral, will be this year’s delightful nativity display - make sure to have a look. The afternoon is free for you to continue your discoveries. Maybe refresh yourself at a café, with a glass of horchata, the traditional Valencian drink made with tiger nut milk.

  • Christmas Eve - Valencia

    Christmas Eve - Valencia

We set our sights on the city’s modern side on a guided tour that takes us first to the sea. It’s not often you spend Christmas Eve at the beach and we’ll enjoy a lovely stroll along the promenade.
After taking in the fresh sea air, we’ll continue to a great example of Valencia’s innovation, a converted riverbed. In 1957 the city experienced a great flood and the resulting measures put into place have seen the Turia River diverted and its empty riverbed converted into a ‘river of culture’. Today you’ll find 9km of parks, gardens, restaurants and museums all in one place, including the famed Oceanografic aquarium and the futuristically shaped opera house (Palau de les Arts Reina Sofia). This afternoon you’re free to wander at your leisure amidst the festive activities - the Turia Gardens themselves are very close to our hotel.

  • Christmas Day - Valencia

    Christmas Day - Valencia

Feliz Navidad! The morning is completely free for you to enjoy as you please. We’ll be served a sumptuous Christmas lunch at the hotel and then there’s time to relax. If you want to walk off your lunchtime feast maybe return to the nearby Turia Gardens, ideal for an afternoon stroll.

  • Boxing Day - La Albufera

    Boxing Day - La Albufera

We’ll head just outside the city to La Albufera, a freshwater lagoon famed not only for its natural wetlands and parklands, but just as importantly for the paella rice that’s grown here. Valencia is where paella was invented and this area is surrounded by rice fields. At a local restaurant, we’ll eat a tasty lunch of this legendary dish and we’ll explore the lagoon on a boat trip - keep your eyes peeled as we glide along for the many species of bird that make their home here.
