Scenic Madeira and the Azores
Day 1 Dover
Titan’s VIP door-to-door travel service collects you from home for your journey to Dover. Embark our ship ahead of our sailing this afternoon.
Days 2-4 At sea
As we sail towards the Azores, you have three free days to do as much (or as little) as you wish. Maybe start your day off with a brisk walk around the deck. Or opt for a yoga class. Spend the afternoon learning a craft, or perfecting your golf swing. After your choice of dinner, you can catch a show or dance into the night.
Day 5 Praia da Vitoria, Azores
Originally heavily fortified, Praia has a fascinating historic quarter and bustling natural harbour. In the centre, the pedestrianised streets are laced with notable monuments and eye-catching architecture. Stop for a view of the 15th century Igreja Matriz de Santa Cruz and stunning Town Hall. Elsewhere, the impressive 16th century Fort of Santa Catarina looms over the modern harbour. If beaches are your thing, you won’t be disappointed by Praia Grande, an uncrowded dark-sand beach with barely any waves.
Days 6-7 Horta (overnight)
On the island of Faial, Horta is a pretty and tranquil little port with one of the most colourful marinas in the world. The town is known for hosting several regattas a year, so although small, there’s often lots of activity and a fun, festival vibe. But the real draw here is the emerald-green, volcanic landscapes. Unspoilt craters, lakes, sheer cliffs and lush valleys are overlooked only by picturesque whitewashed houses and little baroque churches. It’s as pretty as a picture.
Day 8 Ponta Delgada, São Miguel
We leave the small town vibe behind as we dock in Ponta Delgada, the main town on the island of São Miguel - capital of the Azores archipelago. Today, the town has a vibrant, cosmopolitan atmosphere, but look a little closer and you’ll uncover clues to the island’s 500-year-old past. Wander through the narrow, cobbled streets and squares and past the fine collection of buildings to see the striking three-arched city gates, Portas da Cidade, and the Gothic Church of St Sebastian. The Igreja Matriz Church, with its splendid clock tower, is one of many beautifully ornate towers to see. Elsewhere, terracotta-topped houses look out to enchanting mountain plains and lakeside views.
Day 9 At sea
Spend the day on board. Maybe read a book and relax or choose to listen to a fascinating talk by a guest speaker. Enjoy lunchtime melodies or a piano recital, then walk a mile with the cruise fitness instructor.
Day 10 Funchal, Madeira
We voyage further south to Funchal, Madeira’s colourful capital. With winding old lanes, wide 20th century boulevards and squares blossoming with subtropical colours, Funchal’s beauty is completely irresistible. The balmy year-round temperature makes this island the perfect climate for an array of flowers and fruit, so nature lovers feel right at home exploring some of the best parks and gardens in Europe. Perhaps take the cable car from Almirante Reis in old Funchal for a bird’s-eye view of the city below.
Day 11 At sea
Keep your brain active with the morning quiz, then perfect your dance moves in the afternoon with a beginners’ class. After dinner, you could continue the dancing theme and join the hosted dancing, or choose to watch the professionals instead.
Day 12 Leixões (for Porto)
We arrive in Leixões early this morning, just a short journey from historic Porto. Situated deep in the gorge of the River Douro, Porto is a pretty jumble of pastel-fronted houses with red-tiled roofs, neo-classical architecture and wonderful baroque buildings. There’s plenty to keep you busy. In the historic Ribeira district, cobbled lanes wind their way down to the river for a view of the two-levelled Luis I bridge. But don’t get too caught up with all the sightseeing - save some time to sample the famous local tipple, port.
Days 13-14 At sea
As we sail home you may want to rest after all your sightseeing. If you’re still full of energy, there‘s lots to fill your time - from quizzes, games and music recitals to walks on deck and dance classes. And of course there’s plenty of opportunity to enjoy all the tasty food options.
Day 15 Dover
We disembark after breakfast, where your Titan vehicle will be waiting for the journey home.
