Day 2 - Cannes, France (overnight)
Our ship docks in Cannes overnight, allowing plenty of time to explore this glamorous city, known for its annual star-studded film festival, endless wealth, marinas filled with luxurious yachts, and glitzy sun-soaked sandy beaches. All this is far from its original life as a sleepy fishing village during the 2nd century BC, but traces of its past do remain. The old harbour of St Pierre still shelters a flotilla of fishing boats alongside the luxurious super yachts, and Le Suquet, the heart of the old town, is still a cobbled maze of picturesque lanes. Take a stroll along Le Croisette, the seaside promenade so fashionable that it is now sometimes referred to as the ‘catwalk by the sea’. If you don’t wish to independently explore, you can join an optional excursion to the fertile countryside of Southern France discovering fine wineries including the family-owned Château Saint Martin. Ship to shore tender service.
Day 3 - Cannes - Saint-Tropez
Early morning departure from Cannes to arrive in Saint-Tropez, a town that conjures up images of sun-drenched beaches, tanned bodies, and jet setters enjoying martinis on the decks of luxury yachts. Indeed it is a glamourous playground for the wealthy, but anyone can spend an afternoon at a café, watching the spectacle unfold. The south of France played a role in the history of modern painting, its clear light inspiring artists, so that even today many live and work here. For mesmerising views, head up to the 16th century Citadel, or stroll the old town, overflowing with restaurants, trendy boutiques and galleries. Ship to shore tender service.
Day 4 - Palamós, Spain
Palamós sits right in the heart of the Costa Brava, the Wild Coast, deriving its name from the rugged, rocky shoreline, punctuated by excellent beaches and picturesque fishing villages. A wonderful place for food lovers, it has numerous fine restaurants serving mouthwatering, fresh Mediterranean dishes created from fantastic traditional recipes. Perhaps choose an excursion to Figures, home to the museum of its famous and eccentric native son, Salvador Dali.
Day 5 - Alcúdia, Mallorca
Arrive in the wonderful resort town of Alcúdia - located on the northern end of the island of Mallorca - which presents an eclectic mix of Roman and Moorish history combined with modern-day adventures. Roam the old town enclosed by a strong medieval wall, to discover the extremely well-preserved architecture - much of which dates back to the 13th century - alongside vibrant restaurants and bars. You can choose to visit S’Albufera Natural Park - the largest wetland area in the Balearic Islands, with over 250 different bird species.
Day 6 - Valencia
Old world charm meets modern architectural genius in Valencia. Gothic riches abound in the palaces and mansions of a 15th century golden age. The cathedral has a more recent, and opulent, Baroque façade, and the Silk Exchange sports an exterior resembling a medieval fortress and a main hall filled with palm-tree-shaped columns and enigmatic carvings. Prepare to be stunned by the innovative and avant-garde buildings of the new millennium. The City of Arts and Sciences, by world-famous architect Santiago Calatrava, is a dazzling cultural complex set in a sunken park, the likes of which you have never seen before.
Day 7 - Barcelona (overnight)
Barcelona is a place of architectural diversity with medieval buildings and modernist structures filling the dynamic city centre. An optional city tour will take in the most significant architectural landmarks, or discover the city’s treasures at your own pace. The impressive Gothic Quarter showcases ancient buildings including the Basilica of Our Lady of Mercy, the historic palace of Palau de la Generalitat, and the 13th century Barcelona Cathedral. This evening we dock overnight, providing an opportunity to join an evening of Spanish Flamenco.
