Day 1 - London - Amsterdam
Titan’s VIP door-to-door travel service collects you from home, for your journey to London Heathrow Airport and a direct, scheduled British Airways flight to Amsterdam. Upon arrival you will be met and transferred to embark MS Bellejour (4T). One of the elements that make charming Amsterdam so special is its web of waterways, which is why this evening we discover the city with a canal cruise. While travelling down the intertwining canals, we’ll admire sights of crooked merchants’ houses; treasured architecture that reflects the Golden Age. Each house had its own unique, classic design, as this was the only way to identify them before house numbers were introduced.
Day 2 - Amsterdam
Enjoy a tour discovering Amsterdam’s undeniable charm, including the many museums and art galleries that make the city’s art scene world-renowned. Highlights include the Van Gogh Museum, Anne Frank House, Rijksmuseum and beautiful 17th and 18th century canal houses which have been home to several revered artists including Rembrandt. This evening you have the opportunity to view these houses from Amsterdam’s picturesque waterways on an optional cruise excursion.
Day 3 - Rotterdam
This morning we arrive in Rotterdam, known for its futuristic architecture and wealth of spectacular museums. We transfer by coach to Delft, a medieval city renowned for Delftware - the distinctive blue-and-white ceramics that have been a major export for more than 400 years. Today we enjoy a walking tour through the city centre, capturing views of beautiful historic architecture including the New Church on the ‘Markt’, which dates back to 1381, and visiting a Delft Blue shop for an insightful demonstration and explanation on how this exquisite ceramic is made.
Day 4 - Cologne
Today we dock in Cologne, Germany’s 2,000-year old city rich in Roman history and architectural masterpieces. A walking tour takes us through streets decorated with medieval churches, an ancient Roman wall and many avant-garde structures. We also take time marvelling at the mighty UNESCO-listed Cathedral, a 13th century Gothic structure which dominates the city’s skyline, soaring to 157m, and capable of holding 20,000 people. This afternoon, spend time at leisure wandering this spectacular city, or join an optional excursion where a local guide takes you on a real German ‘pub tour’ to several traditional pubs and breweries tasting the local beer, cuisine - including typically German pub food, sausages and sauerkraut - and get a true insight into the local culture and traditions.
Day 5 - Koblenz - Lorelei Passage - Rüdesheim
This morning we enjoy some free time in Koblenz, an ancient city that has seen many armies come and go. On the opposite side of the Rhine is the magnificent Ehrenbreitstein Fort, Europe’s second largest fortress, which held 1,500 men and 80 cannons at full strength. It is now home to a diverse range of exhibitions. We continue our cruise through the beautiful Rhine Gorge and legendary Lorelei Passage, to Rüdesheim, a German winemaking town in the verdant Rhine Valley.
Day 6 - Mannheim - Worms
Enjoy the morning in Mannheim, a successful industrial town that is the home of Germany’s largest Baroque palace. The sandstone Barockschloss was heavily damaged during World War II but its most magnificent rooms, including the church where Mozart once performed, have been restored and redressed with ornate furniture, priceless paintings, huge chandeliers, valuable porcelain and silverware. Visit Kunsthalle Museum to admire art by masters such as Cézanne, Manet and Rodin, or take a stroll through the beautiful gardens of Friedrichsplatz - there is an impressive amount of green space in this city. Later in the day we continue to Worms, one of Germany’s oldest cities and a legendary capital of the Burgundian Kingdom between the 5th and 12th centuries.
Day 7 - Kehl
Today we arrive in Kehl, a city influenced by both France and Germany as it has repeatedly changed between German, French, and briefly Austrian hands throughout its 1,000-year life, including twice in the last century. You can choose to cross the River Rhine straight into the dynamic French city of Strasbourg, bursting with culture and mighty architecture, including the 142m-high Gothic Cathedral.
Day 8 Mainz - Frankfurt - London
Enjoy time at leisure in the beautiful city of Mainz, full of ancient Roman history. We transfer to Frankfurt Airport for a direct, scheduled British Airways flight to London Heathrow Airport. Upon arrival you will be met and guided to your Titan vehicle, for the journey home.
