The world’s northernmost medieval cathedral features a stunning ornate rose window and beautifully detailed west façade. Or visit the Archbishop’s Palace - a fascinating museum hosting impressive artefacts and sculptures; Sverresborg Trøndelag Folk Museum; or the spectacular Kristiansten Fortress which overlooks the city from a strategic hill.

Perhaps travel 420 metres above sea level to the top of Mount Storsteinen by cable car, capturing breathtaking views over the surrounding area, or visit the city’s distinctive landmark, the unmissable Arctic Cathedral - built in 1965 in an iceberg design, the cathedral also boasts a magnificent glass mosaic on the eastern wall. Other options for today include touring the Tromsø Wilderness Centre or meeting the island’s native husky dogs.

Day 7 - Tromsø - Alta (overnight)

Sail from Tromsø to the historic city of Alta, arriving early this afternoon. Alta has been inhabited since prehistoric times, most notably by Sami people, and many of its previous residents have left their stamp on the area, such as the Hjemmeluft, the largest ensemble of rock carvings found in Scandinavia, dating from 2,000 to 5,000 years ago. Alta also has a particularly magical night sky, if the Northern Lights choose to make an appearance over our ship tonight.
