Balmoral (3T+)

Day 2 - Cruising Lysefjord, Pulpit Rock and Kjerag

This evening we enjoy an unforgettable scenic cruise along the beautiful Lysefjord, sailing past the beautiful Kjerag Mountain and underneath the incredible ‘Preikestolen’ (Pulpit Rock), a flat mountain plateau jutting out over the fjord, more than 600 metres below.

Balmoral (3T+)

Day 3 - Bergen, Norway

We are in Norway’s second city, Bergen, this morning, popularly known as the ‘gateway to the fjords’. Take a look around the Hanseatic Wharf, with its colourful timbered houses, restaurants, boutiques and artists’ studios and visit the medieval Haakon’s Hall, built by King Haakon Haakonson as a royal residence and banqueting hall 750 years ago. Our optional excursion is to Troldhaugen, once the home of Norway’s best-loved composer, Edvard Grieg. We will enjoy a short concert of Grieg’s works here and there will be time to explore the house and pretty gardens. We leave Bergen tonight.

Balmoral (3T+)

Day 4 - Olden - cruising Nordfjord - cruising Hornelen

Today Balmoral arrives in the appealing little village of Olden, set amongst green meadows and babbling brooks on the southern shore of Nordfjord. In the centre of the village you’ll find the Old Church, built in 1759, and the Singerheimen, once the home of the American artist William Henry Singer and some of his paintings of the local area are on display in his studio. Olden is the gateway to mainland Europe’s largest glacier, the Jostedal Glacier and the best known glacier arm, Briksdal. Later today we sail along Nordfjord, passing the dramatic Hornelen, said to be the tallest sea cliff in northern Europe. Ship to shore tender service.

Balmoral (3T+)

Day 5 - Flåm - cruising Nærøyfjord - cruising Sognefjord

Set on the banks of Aurlandsfjord and surrounded by orchards, farmland and magnificent mountain scenery, Flåm is known for its 20km-long railway, the Flåmsbana, one of the steepest train lines in the world, with a gradient of 5.5% on most of the route. The line passes through 20 tunnels on its way to Myrdal, 865 metres up, running through some of Norway’s wildest and most beautiful countryside, offering views of waterfalls, rivers and farms clinging to the sides of the mountains. The Flåmsbana Museum in the village tells the story of the railway’s design and construction. Leaving Flåm, we cruise along the breathtaking Nærøyfjord and Sognefjord, one of the world's longest fjords. Ship to shore tender service.

Balmoral (3T+)

Day 6 - Cruising Maurangerfjord & Furebergfossen - cruise Hardangerfjord - Eidfjord

Our day begins with a leisurely cruise along the Maurangerfjord, gliding past the pretty Furebergfossen Waterfall for wonderful views and photo opportunities, and into the spectacular Hardangerfjord, known as the ‘Queen of the Fjords’, enjoying the spellbinding scenery of towering mountains, waterfalls and idyllic orchards. This afternoon we reach the strikingly beautiful village of Eidfjord, where you are free to explore at your own pace. Alternatively, join our optional ‘Taste of Hardangerfjord’ excursion, which will visit the Hardanger Juice and Cider Factory in the village of Ulvik. On the guided tour you will sample apple juice and sparkling cider as well as some local specialities such as traditional Norwegian lefse pancakes, salmon and sour cream.

Balmoral (3T+)

Day 7 - At sea

Enjoy a relaxing day aboard Balmoral as we sail back across the North Sea towards Newcastle, perhaps taking a dip in one of the two pools or catching up with friends in the Observatory Lounge.
